World Central Kitchen workers killed by Israeli airstrike in Gaza [1]

Israel says it was targeting a militant who took part in the Oct. 7, 2023 attack. WCK is temporarily suspending operations in Gaza. They deny knowing of anyone in their organization that had ties to the Hamas attack, but are seeking more information.

We are heartbroken to share that a vehicle carrying World Central Kitchen colleagues was hit by an Israeli airstrike in Gaza. At this time, we are working with incomplete information and are urgently seeking more details. World Central Kitchen had no knowledge that any individual in the vehicle had alleged ties to the October 7th Hamas attack. World Central Kitchen is pausing operations in Gaza at this time. Our hearts are with our colleagues and their families in this unimaginable moment.

One of those killed was Chef Mahmoud, who ran a soup kitchen in Gaza with his family. There’s an article about his work here.

His brother has a GoFundMe raising money to feed the hungry in Gaza. Though Chef Mahmoud’s original kitchen has been closed, they’ve opened others. They were asking people to donate in honor of Thanksgiving. Now people are donating in memory of Chef Mahmoud.
