A New YouTube Channel Worth Knowing About [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2024-11-23 I don’t do short diaries. I have the Aspie fault that I’ll think I’m going to and I’ll even say so, but then I write a novella. [Trust me, this is even more fun in real life, and it’s mortifying, and dammit it seems to be hardwired.] So this one probably won’t be short either, but I had good intentions. I discovered a new YouTube channel and I want to share immediately. It’s called “Talking Politics With Mom”. Mom is a Boomer, a tad bit older than I am. To give away some of the game, she mentions her time in law school. Mom’s got chops. Son is a good interviewer, enough to make me wonder what else he has done professionally, or might do when he isn’t doing this. If these two folks are known to more politically or socially savvy people here, please share. The episode I found, that I am bringing here, is about the fifties, that wonderful time that the Reich wing wants us all to relive whether we want to or not. Mom is candid, very. And it’s interesting to watch mother and son work through a bit of discomfort/denial as they get more and more into the facts of exactly how the Golden Age of a Living Wage depended so massively on Certain People Never Getting One, With HUGE Racial Implications. I don’t want to spoil it, I do want to share it, it’s so new there are fewer than ten videos, and I hope this will help the channel launch and gain subscribers because I think it deserves to. Like I said, I have no idea who these folks are IRL, no vested interest other than that they do a damn fine job here and I wanted to share that. And no, you don’t have to agree with them about everything, but I think you will find their perspective interesting and informative. To round out the picture I’m also going to embed one of Robert Reich’s recent discussions, because I honestly do not understand why we don’t have more of these diaried and discussed here. He knows what he’s talking about, and he has serious perspective. Also, you will get to hear him swear, too, right up front, whee. Dr. Reich and friends — three generations, the youngest participant being exactly half a century younger than Reich is, to the day — are talking about *ahem* a recent upsetting event, in some depth, and I think at this point it’s easier to hear what they’re saying because we’ve all done a lot of processing since That Day. However, fair warning; Reich’s panel discussion actually talks about economic stuff as though it mattered to people and affected them, and I strongly suggest listening, because, again, they actually discuss this in depth, and they’re not exactly cranks. Besides which, this discussion dovetails nicely with the intergenerational dialog that prompted me to create this diary. OK, before this becomes another one of my Aspie sagas, here are the vids. I am writing this late in the evening on Saturday, so I’m going to put it up in the hopes that our night owls will see it and will outnumber any passing trolls. Won’t be babysitting it exactly, will check in on it until I turn in for the night, and of course tomorrow morning. Enjoy, I hope!
