More on those later today. Tonight, really. If it is admitted that a condition of rational doubt would be desirable, it becomes important to inquire how it comes about that there is so much irrational certainty in the world. A great deal of this is due to the inherent irrationality and credulity of average human nature. But this seed of intellectual original sin is nourished and fostered by other agencies, among which three play the chief part — namely, education, propaganda, and economic pressure... Genet: A Biography by Edmund White - Decided to pick this back up for obvious reasons but I am simply annoyed that White allowed the voluminous timeline of important dates in Jean Genet’s life at the beginning of this book instead of the end of the book as sort of an appendix. (FTR, I read all of Genet’s novels in my early 20’s and read his plays— all of them— in my late 20’s and early 30’s. I’ve always felt that I read his novels too early in life.)
