[1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2024-11-19 Is there any hope for the future? Many newspeople, educators, and other pundits have weighed in since the disastrous election of November 5, 2024. All kinds of catastrophic predictions for the future and what actions are possible to blunt or counteract it in the short term etc. From resistance to Trump appointments by both houses of Congress, lawsuits launched against Trump’s actions, independent actions by the states to protect the rule of law and the rights of the people(s). I also heard it stated that the damage Trump is about to do will have impacts that will last for generations. I will not provide details on the many facets of what Trump is about to bring about that will adversely affect many of us – that has been covered in many other articles. While I have no doubt that we are in for some very difficult times ahead in the next 2-4 years at least, I think there is a bit of reason for some spark of optimism that maybe, just maybe, the impact may be more limited to the time the Orange Blob is in office. And in addition to blunting the evil he is about to perpetrate, that a different governmental regime, either in the legislative branch and/or executive branch of the federal government, can see a reversal of the devastating changes to our government and our democracy about to take place. In showing a small ray of optimism I am recalling the cycles in our governmental control over the last decades corresponding to my own lifetime (second half of the twentieth century and first 2 decades of the 21st). Think of what we went through with the Kennedy assassination, Richard Nixon and the Vietnam War, 8 years of Ronald Reagan and his band of war-mongers (remember “With Enough Shovels” we can survive a nuclear war), George W. Bush and the War in Iraq etc., Bil Clinton and his almost actionless second term marred by his impeachment for his sex scandal, Obama’s difficulty in enacting anything when opposed by a Republican Congress. However, we did enjoy periods of relative peace and good works with Jimmy Carter, Clinton’s first term, Obama overall, Biden. The path of our democracy has not been an easy one, and will now be in maybe the most difficult jeopardy, but I think there is still a ray of hope that stability and sanity may be restored once the Orange Blob is out of the picture. As a limerick writer, I offer the following limericks: This election for sure was a farce More astutely, “a kick in the arse” For Trump and his sidekicks Leave too much to fix The future’s too doubtful to parse. I guess that for now we’re in trouble The election has shattered our “bubble” The Executive devil Collective of evil Which way is to get out of this rubble?
