I’m in my 60’s and l look like a Q-Tip. He wanted to change it to Woody Allen, but I told him I’m not having it. No association with that pervert. The Executive Director is Anna Nicole Smith. The woman that does hygiene is Joni Mitchell. There is Rocky, a dark haired man in his twenties, theres Pamela Anderson, who not only provides food & support, but know how to defuse fights. There’s Drew Barrymore, and Madonna, both in their 20’s and Indiana Jones, named because of his hat. You get the drift. 70’s 80’s 90’s celebrities. D’asandro is a broad shouldered, broad bellied regular with an equally large personality. Like many unhoused people he collects stuff. His stuff seems to be pens. His shirt pocket bulges with a wide assortment. D’asandro has been a regular, never missing a day for about 3 years now. Currently, he does have housing, he’s has an apartment and is on disability. There is around a dozen reliable volunteers. We are not associated with any religion or organization. We are community based, which means, someone finds us on social media and decides this is something they want to do. If they like it, they return. After a few months, they’re a regular. Micky might be in his thirties. His fair hair is long and wild like his beard. He has blue eyes and never wears a shirt. His torso is a canvass of scars from hard living and fights. He likes to hang out with Anna Nicole and the other volunteers who aren’t serving. He will get some food and eat it later, as he prefers our company. Micky is from Michigan, he came out here to be a stand-up comedian. Here’s a sample: “My mom told me I was good in math. She told me I was good in English. But she never told me I was good in bed.” A little raw, but funnier than Rosanne Barr. Micky told us that he never wears a shirt because it makes him look crazy and the trouble makers stay away from crazy people. Every Sunday we show up around 5:30pm, on a one-way street, bordered by a freeway, in the heart of Hollywood, and we feed 80 to 150 people. Our clients (?) range from families with children to the people you ignore at the freeway off-ramps, to those who are half clothed and under violent attack by their own demons. Each and everyone, someone’s child. Our set up is thus: We are literally in the street, not on the sidewalk. Our tables are set up in an “L” the foot being the beginning. It is there that Joni Mitchel hands out hygiene. We try to provide toilet paper, wipes, soap, tooth paste, toothbrushes and Narcan. Turning the foot of the “L” are several 6 foot long tables of food. 4 steamer trays of hot food. This is provided by us. We buy it. We cook it. Pamela Anderson always brings 5 - 8 full trays. We try to supply healthy meals, protein, vegetables, and vegetarian food because we do have quite a few vegetarians. Then a big bowl of salad, usually with chicken, then snacks, bottled water and Capri Sun. We end with donuts coffee and Susanne Summers who sponsors the ice cream table. Now that it’s turning cold, we are planning on switching out the ice cream for something else. Probably store bought cookies. Because it is getting cold, we are receiving a lot of requests for tents, tarps and sleeping bags.
