Cut them off from our money [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2024-11-18 So- now that the federal government is firmly controlled by a party that is trending fascist, is it time to consider a new policy stance around taxes? If I felt any confidence that Dems would be back in control by the midterms or the next presidential election we could stay the course. Unfortunately, this really doesn’t feel like a happy ending is around the corner. (Note, I’m sure this is pie in the sky, but consider it a thought exercise.) I would recommend we immediately become the party that favors cutting federal taxes to the absolutely minimum. Like start the negotiation at ZERO taxes. Yes that is backwards from our current stance. Cut taxes? The democrats? DOES NOT COMPUTE. Ok, but here’s the thing. The federal government is seriously broken, and it is broken by design. It is controlled by religious zealots, racists, and misogynists. Giving those people my hard earned tax money is very low on my list of things I want to do. So, reasons: -Voters in blue states pay most taxes, and subsidize the red states. That nicety should end. Giving red states money so they can function just creates an illusion that the choices they make are working out. Maybe at this point we are just enabling them. They truly believe blue states are the moochers in this scenario, while they are the hard working rednecks who make the country go. They will never get over their inflated sense of self worth unless we cut off their allowances. You know, like Don Jr said about Ukraine (SUCH an ASSHOLE). -The asshole wrecking crew will do their level best to embezzle federal money a million different ways. Don’t give them more money. -Voters hate federal taxes, so give them what they want. As close to Zero federal taxes as possible. Amazing, we are popular again? Ok probably not that easy. But fuck it- if we started voting for zero federal taxes imagine the mindfuck facing Republicans who would be forced to vote for more taxes to prop up their gravy train. -Government spending is about to get slashed anyways, and we know it’s all the programs we favor that are getting chopped. We may as well go one better, and try to cut ALL federal programs so their programs get axed also. -As much as possible, federal government funds will be used to harm us going forward, or to harm our allies. One example: Big defense/intelligence budget? Great, until we are backing Putin, and Tulsi Gabbard is sharing all that pricey intelligence directly with Russia. -The BLUE areas are incredibly strong, smart and way more self sufficient. We have been dragging the red areas along with us for decades. If our federal tax burden was cut in half, blue states could raise local taxes to help their own populations. Over time, the red states will fall into ruin and the blue states will prosper. FINE. I get that there are lots of democratic voters in red states, but we are in a triage situation. We can help them relocate to a blue area with all the new state tax money, which will just make our side more populous and prosperous. An analogy: I know that citizens in Russia have terrible standards of living and life expectancy. Their government is our political enemy. We could choose to send billions of our tax dollars to Russia hoping they would spend it on helping their people. But that would be idiotic because Putin would just spend that money on bombs to destroy the nearest democracy. Within a few more months of regression here, we may start feeling uncomfortably similar as we send our tax dollars to Washington DC. If they are using OUR money to build concentration camps, certainly that should settle the question? -This seems like a better course of action than an actual civil war, or trying to secede. We are stuck in this country together like it or not. That does NOT mean we have to keep insisting on handing our enemies our capital. Are there a million reasons this is a terrible idea? Sure. We are all Americans and lots of innocent people in red states would be hurt. But here’s something never mentioned: there are millions of people in blue states who are hurting, who need housing, who need medical care. Every dollar California sends to a red state is one less dollar they can use to help their own people. We need to show the American populace which of these two cultures we have in this country is actually the successful one- the one that pays the bills. We’ve been saying it for many years and it’s not cutting it. Time to SHOW it. Call their fucking bluff. Make the Republicans touch the hot stove, and then make them hold onto it no matter how much it hurts. Or, civil war? Choices, choices...
