Messaging to the working class [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2024-11-17 It's pretty much agreed that the Democratic Party has a major problem with messaging, especially to the working class. There has been a number of benefits for the working class enacted in the last four years, but the public seems to be mostly ignorant of them. My gut feeling is that a large number of voters who went for Trump did so because they were ignorant of what was in their best interests and would have voted Democratic if they were better informed. What is to be done? I don't think that a Democratic-allied outlet is the answer. The right-wing disinformation machine would just label it false news and a large part of its intended audience would be lost. I think a better approach is a non-partisan website targeted specifically at a working-class audience. It would be entirely separate from mainstream media and would emphasize this fact. It would have news about working-class issues at national, state and local levels. It would specifically name legislators and their party affiliations so the readers could see for themselves who really was on their side and who was against them. This would show them who said one thing and did another. It would have feature articles concerning topics relevant to its audience: inflation, jobs outlook, health care, tariffs etc, with links to supporting facts. It could have a section for user diaries, like DK here. It could post rebuttals against right-wing lies, using publicly-available facts. Maybe cartoons too. And more. It is absolutely essential that this site be non-partisan (other than working-class biased) and that it would be so perceived by its users. Its articles would be slanted to the working-class viewpoint. This would build trust in its message. Trust is the best (only?) defense against the disinformation that would be directed at it. It would probably take a while to get such a site up and running, but the long-term benefit would be well worth it. Defenders of democracy could share links to the site in all their postings to help it along. Does anyone know if such a site already exists? If so, please post in comments.
