They didn't believe us [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2024-11-16 We've all been asking why we lost and lost so badly. Kamala Harris' campaign was the best funded in history. Yes, it was too short, yes Biden should never have run for re-election in the first place. Yes, the Russians interfered with a tsunami of misinformation. Yes, racism and misogyny played a part. Yes, Gaza was a drag on our prospects. But the final analysis shows we lost because blue collar voters of all ethnic backgrounds and genders didn't vote Democratic in sufficient numbers. Many didn't vote at all. Dispite all the blather to the contrary. Kamala Harris' message was aimed directly at the groups that didn't put us over the top. It was clear and full-throated. She said it over and over: I'll work to bring down prices. To make housing more affordable. To raise the fortunes of working people. Her campaign was high energy and full of hope and promise. But it failed. Why? They. Didn't. Believe. Us. Politics has become so full of hyperbole that people take everything politicians say with a whole salt shaker of salt. Trump's vile rhetoric and crazy rambling rolled off like water off a duck. It didn't matter what he said. Most people didn't take him seriously. And when we screamed, TAKE HIM SERIOUSLY! They thought it was the same nonsense. That's it folks. The majority has tuned out politics entirely. We said "This is the most important election of your life," too many times. We need to get back to basics.
