The Price of Being Right [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2024-11-16 In the Trump administration, it's somewhat different. The Price is Right is how Trump's lackys and supporters are behaving. You're going to see grift beyond what Trump has accomplished. It won't be pretty. At the same time, you've got people losing their jobs because of criticism of Trump and/or his supporters. The latest casualty is the editor of Scientific American. She had the temerity to state the truth, that Trump's supporters were "the meanest, dumbest and most bigoted" individuals celebrating on election night. The kerfuffle this caused led to her resigning. This is the problem with Trump, his cadre of criminals and the MAGA faithful. They're very thin skinned and violent when they're criticized. Democrats, when they make criticisms, are vilified beyond belief. Especially when they're making demonstratable true statements. It seems that the Republicans are the only ones who have the right to criticize and insult people, and they do it without cause. Democrats at least have something valid to criticize the Republicans about. Politically correct is a term that has been turned on its head by the far right. It used to be about using terms and describing people that were seen as hurtful. But now politically incorrect means anything the Democrats say. Just look at the three college presidents that had to resign after Republicans running a committee about the Palestinian demonstrations wouldn't call Palestinian protests hate crimes, or against activities not sanctioned by the colleges. This is not the time to crawl back into a hole or stick your head in the sand. We have to keep criticizing and be forthright about it. We can't keep correcting ourselves and trying to be nice when the far right is wrong. Yes, from the far right there are threats of violence. But that didn't stop people in the civil rights movement in the 60s. It didn't stop Martin Luther King until he paid with the highest price. Trump supporters will use doxxing, bomb threats, swatting, as their tools of vengeance when they find you online criticizing them. Being afraid of this happening is only capitulating. Allowing them to get away with it just makes it worse for the next person. We have to use the same tools as the far right to compete against them. Call out their sites for attacks while trying to keep anonymous just like they do. Defend those targeted by the MAGA mob. We, you, are creative. Think of some new methods like boycotting anything that gives MAGA supporters money, and corporations that fund them. There is a Women's March planned for January 18th. Two days before Trump's inauguration. They're expecting to have 50,000 people show up. It may turn out to be many times that with people as angry as can be for what happened in the election. I hope there are massive protests the day of Trump's inauguration. I hope protests disrupt it completely. I hope they are so loud, even if they're far away due to security, that we can't even hear Trump speak at his inauguration. That it gets him flustered and bellicose and he starts babbling drivel like he always does at his rallies. All they've got to do is be peaceful about it so law enforcement doesn't have any excuse to crack down. Trump is not going to be in power yet, so they don't have to worry about the military being used against them. The National Guard may be providing security as well as local law enforcement. But they know their job, which is not shooting people in the leg, as Trump would have them do. Trump is trying to pull the wool over our eyes with his outrageous nominations for cabinet positions. It's a tactic to focus on everything but the danger he is to the country. He won the election, but that does not mean we need to bow down to his whims.
