We understand the chaos and implications of these picks. the Shock and Awe to deflate us… to make us accept the “inevitable” etc. ...all of the negativity to drown us…. Historian Timothy Snyder wrote about this in his “Decapitation Strike” substack posted here by Laura G yesterday. Well, trump’s plan to smash forward must be met with fierce resistance. He wants to crush our will at the get go. We need to kneecap his agenda. The stronger the response upfront, hurts him and opens up discord within his administration and party (which as unified as they can be, are always still a shit show). In short, we need to be Mitch McConnell. Politics is ugly and Democrats are rarely acting like it. No politeness. Even though, they control the Senate (and the House). Both are narrow. On one level, that’s all it takes for them to do what they want, but it’s imperative that Democratic leadership deploy all available tools, no matter how limited and also smother every nominee in our messaging — on a level that we rarely, if ever do. I would add that with trump being a lame duck, it only adds to the fact that there is opportunity for some Republicans to breakaway. Seems odd, right? No way that happens at the start right? Well, there is zero chance that Thune likes trump. Thune also should have incentive to flex his own muscles as a Senate leader who is part of a branch separate from the WH. It’s unlikely that we see much dissent from Thune, but it’s more than people think. Plotting a post trump administration is no doubt already in mind for GOP leaders who clearly recognize that they are going to have incredible headwinds in 2026 and 28. But it’s absolutely critical for Dem leadership to control the narrative and saturate the news cycles. trump wants recess appointments from the get go… across the board (plus no background checks etc). Every Democrat in office and with a platform must hammer how unprecedented that is, along with how terribly qualified most every pick is (to say the least). This can also embarrass/shame Thune to act, if he isn’t already. Dumb ass trump is likely unaware that SCOTUS ruled that a recess must be lengthy. If this happen, it’s political malfeasance if Dem leadership and others with platforms don’t hammer that. I have concerns… this isn’t Schumer’s style, but he and we can’t operate like it’s things are normal, or even like it’s 2017. We can remind our representatives, Senators and even Republican ones of the stakes. trump isn’t disciplined and doesn’t like to work. Fierce resistance will have an impact. In short, things have to be thrown back at them. No settling. No compromise and no fucking obeying in advance. No talk of “there won’t be an election in 2026.. 2028.” Fuck that shit. There will be elections, and we will fucking win.
