Occasionally, I may add a section or a link related to books… Foolproof : Why We Fall for Misinformation and How to Build Immunity by Sander van der Linden - I purchased this book about six months ago in anticipation of doing a book review utilizing a few books about misinformation/disinformation prior to the 2024 election. I did read about half of Al Gore’s The Assault on Reason: Our Information Ecosystem, from the Age of Print to the Age of Trump and browsed through the van Der Linden but shelved the project. I regret not doing that review now. Now with an incoming administration devoted to misinforming and lying to the public, I want to revisit this project and hope to have something out by the end of the year. Material of this sort is more needed than ever for obvious reasons. Right now reading the first part of the book on the importance of “making the truth fluent.” The strategic use of misinformation is widespread throughout the animal kingdom and can be advantageous from an evolutionary standpoint. For example, prey will often use the (sensory) misinformation tactics to make themselves less attractive to predators by feigning death or mimicking inedible objects such as leaves...
