[1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2024-11-15 Trump’s Incompetence and bad behavior is going to create its own massive opposition, right quick. To me, some of the best news out of Trump’s behavior so far is that he is creating the counter-weight to his incredibly awful staffing decisions, in the form of: --Massive policy opposition such as Dem Governors, the ACLU, NAACP, senior military officials, intelligence officials, scientists and medical experts, and --This policy opposition will easily be accompanied by a “cottage industry” in the media that tracks all of the bad and incompetent behavior coming out of Trump, Vance, and the worst cabinet members. I think that it’s clear already that numerous members of the media—WaPo, Huffington Post, MSNBC, CNN, Time, Newsweek, and so on—are now licking their chops that they will have important roles as part of the Trump-Tracking Opposition that they never would have had under a more centrist Administration. I expect that they are already setting up business plans as to how they will wage this fight, by identifying awful, incompetent behavior and awful personnel choices, and getting strong publicity for their efforts. They will be working with the Democratic Oppostion, and their resources and effects will be powerful. They will be banging on the Worst Trump behavior and outcomes, hard. This pattern is going to create an entire new class of competition for starring roles. --All of this is going to force a number of Republican Senators to play along, rejecting the worst Trumpian initiatives, such as the “awful four” Cabinet assignments. www.washingtonpost.com/... Will the Senate actually confirm Gaetz, Gabbard and Kennedy? Gaming it out. A look at the various dynamics that will define the first high-stakes clash of Trump’s second term. Welcome to The Campaign Moment, your guide to aftermath of the 2024 election and a Trump transition that has quickly gotten real — for his fellow Republicans and for everyone else. It’s safe to say that the 48-hour period between Tuesday and Thursday evenings is when anyone who doubted President-elect Donald Trump’s intentions to wreck shop in a second term got their first big reality check, via Trump’s Cabinet picks. Trump’s first administration was a chaotic one, to put it mildly. But even by his standards, nominating now-former congressman Matt Gaetz (R-Florida) for attorney general, former Democratic congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard (Hawaii) for director of national intelligence, Fox News host Pete Hegseth for secretary of defense and now Robert F. Kennedy Jr. for Health and Human Services secretary is out there. None of them has the kind of experience that usually comes with those massive roles; all of them have significant baggage. Also in WaPo, by David Ignatius: www.washingtonpost.com/... Opinion Trump’s national security wrecking crew If confirmed, Pete Hegseth and Tulsi Gabbard would do more to doom Trump’s presidency than Democrats ever could. American voters gave Donald Trump a solid win on Election Day. But they didn’t give him a wrecking ball to destroy the country’s military and intelligence agencies. That’s what’s so scary about Trump’s nominations of Pete Hegseth and Tulsi Gabbard as secretary of defense and director of national intelligence, respectively. Neither is remotely qualified for two of the most important management jobs in government. They’re polemicists and ideologues — wreckers, to be blunt, rather than builders. If confirmed, they would do more to doom Trump’s presidency than Democrats ever could. And Ruth Marcus: www.washingtonpost.com/... Opinion Welcome to the Donald Trump Amateur Hour. Can democracy survive it? Trump is stocking his Cabinet with amateurs and pranksters. Can democracy survive it? And: www.washingtonpost.com/... Opinion Trump is already Making America Gape Again His administration is going to be just as incompetent as it was last time — maybe more so. And from Huff Post: Geraldo Rivera Says 'I Threw Up In My Mouth' Over This Donald Trump Cabinet Pick “I think it is a horrible, creepy choice," said the longtime friend of the president-elect (about Gaetz). And one more group, in the Times: www.nytimes.com/... Democratic Governors Form a Group to Oppose the Trump Administration The group’s leaders, Govs. JB Pritzker of Illinois and Jared Polis of Colorado, are ambitious Democrats likely to try to fill the party’s looming leadership void. In the first of what is likely to be several groups that sprout to resist the next Trump administration, two Democratic governors announced on Wednesday that they were forming a group to help protect state-level institutions of democracy. The group, Governors Safeguarding Democracy, is meant to serve as a mechanism for Democratic states to coordinate efforts to oppose the right-wing policies of President-elect Donald J. Trump. Its leaders, Govs. JB Pritzker of Illinois and Jared Polis of Colorado, are among a group of ambitious Democrats likely to try to fill a party-wide leadership void once President Biden leaves office. “Donald Trump is going to bring people into his administration who are absolute loyalists to his cult of personality and not necessarily to the law,” Mr. Pritzker said. “Last time, he didn’t really know where the levers of government were. I think he probably does now. And so I think that the threat remains great.” The word “ambitious” is a big deal right now. Ambition against Trump is going to flow all over the place. --This all will in turn, generate substantial and widespread opportunities for the 2026 election in both Houses, Governorships, state legislatures, etc. The idea of “buyer’s remorse” is going to flourish as a political pattern, right quick. All of the categories of voters that gave Trump too much leeway—Latins, Black Men, white women, etc.-- are quickly going to see that the Trump Administration is going to be awful for them, and they WILL react. They will be getting fuel from the media and socially oriented organizations, many more than the few I noted above. It’s time to get ready for a massive fight, and massive new policy, political and career opportunities. The leftward half of the media —and parts of the middle-- and our political and social infrastructure--are getting ready as well. And of course, none of this takes into account the very strong likelihoods that: a) Trump will continue to deteriorate mentally and physically, in ways that destroy his “leadership;” and b) His beahaviors early in his Regime will include destructive forays at his opposition, that will generate even more strongly organized opposition. The idea of “bad news as good news” is going to flourish. We are literally going to a non-shooting war, and many high-visibility organizations and writers will join it. UPDATE: A couple of new key points. First, the issue goes vastly beyond the question as to whether these picks are popular RIGHT NOW or parts of the MSM are unpopular.
