[1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2024-11-13 One of the real stories of the 2024 election is that millions of people who might have voted for Democrats stayed home. The Courtier Press, steeped as it is in reactionary centrism, won’t say the obvious. Appealing to Liz Cheney, the Never Trump Republicans, the Meidas Touch Moderates, and Rick Wilson’s alleged fan base brought approximately zero votes to the Harris-Walz ticket while convincing huge numbers of potential Democratic voters to sit home and...I don’t know, do something. Or work their second jobs, more likely. What seemed like a brilliant strategy sure to bring success in the minds of the Beltway press and the consultants of the DNC turned out to be a brilliant strategy sure to convince people who struggle to pay the bills in a good month the two parties are one and the same. This is yet another thing that FDR understood better than the powers that be in the Democratic Party do now, 90 years later. We had to struggle with the old enemies of peace—business and financial monopoly, speculation, reckless banking, class antagonism, sectionalism, war profiteering. They had begun to consider the Government of the United States as a mere appendage to their own affairs. We know now that Government by organized money is just as dangerous as Government by organized mob. Never before in all our history have these forces been so united against one candidate as they stand today. They are unanimous in their hate for me—and I welcome their hatred. I urge you to read the rest of that speech as well. Written for FDR’s first reelection campaign, It reads almost as if it could have been written for the Harris-Walz campaign. Kamala Harris had all the right intentions. She had most of the right policies. She had many of the right words. She pulled her punches, almost certainly at the behest of Democratic consultants, reactionary centrists, and other overly cautious people, just short of where her punches really need them to land.
