Idiocracy Part 2: Both sides are the Same [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2024-11-13 Continuing on from my previous diary (www.dailykos.com/...) about America is now fully an Idiocracy, the youth vote (now that more of the vote numbers are in) supports that previous assertion it would seem. But something odd has been creeping up in the stories I’ve been reading, the younger demographics are basically rehashing the “both sides are the same” bullsh*t, but the reasoning behind it actually has some extremely valid points. First off (simply) Republicans: No, they are MAGA. Remove rights, tax cuts for the rich, destroy environment, bigotry, nothing but culture wars over non-issues Democrats: Equality, environmental protections However… Even with the parties being vastly different with different policies and priorities….America isn’t working for a lot of people. In 2016, even though I was shocked and disgusted, I wasn’t really surprised that *t won. I had been noticing for a few years before that election that American’s are really tired of the way the country is being run. Our government doesn’t work for anyone unless they have the money to make it work for them, so a complete political outsider was of course going to be extremely welcomed. It just was absolute horrible luck that *t was the one to come along first and capitalized on that sentiment. While I wasn’t thrilled for Hillary, I voted for her, but I hated the feeling that our only options were political dynasties. If she would have won, would 2020 been Michelle O. vs Jeb B.? Would either party nominate someone that didn’t have a legacy in presidencies? If you expand that line of reasoning out, it’s not too hard to imagine that younger generations are seeing the same politicians reaping the benefits of being in Congress or President and having nothing change for them. Oh course promises would be made pre-election, but you know nothing ends up changing because the politicians are rarely changing. If nothing is really changing for Americans, despite the parties being vastly different, then why vote for the status quo? Even though having Democrats in power have given the country: ACA, IRA, CHIPS, Marriage Equality, Democrats in power have not been able to reach voters that they have done all that. Also equally annoying is that every time a major Democratic initiative goes into effect, MAGA reps take credit for it, or worse, sabotage it then go on their platforms and cry about how bad whatever policy/law they just sabotaged. So how does that all relate to nearly half the country ushering us into an Idiocracy? To anyone who said the Economy was their #1 issue and voted *t because it’s terrible right now, they are part of that cohort. Just an example here, I used to buy 12-packs of soda for $4.99 pre-Covid. When Covid hit, the price jumped to $8.99, then $9.99, now they are usually $11.99. Inflation didn’t do that, corporate gouging did. Guess what though? I don’t buy soda anymore, jacking up prices by over 200% and using 9% inflation as a justification isn’t math-ing in my head. But other people are still buying soda at this price, companies have no incentive to lower it back down. If someone is part of the Idiocracy though, Biden caused that and it’s all the Democrats fault. Kamala had even talked about going after price gouging on the campaign trail, but until Americans start punishing companies for rampant price gouging, nothing will change...so yeah, until that happens, are the parties really that different when it comes to the Economy? The Idiocracy says it’s not and will vote in *t-like people who promise change, even if that change is 100% against their own interests and will cause suffering.
