Monday Morning Quarterback [1]

Donald Trump’s victory was a landslide with the electoral college, but was actually a narrow victory with the popular vote. The swing states that went for Trump were with very narrow margins. According to Greg Palast, voter purges and uncounted ballots may have been a factor.

Nevertheless, it seems astonishing that this race was even close, what with Trump’s criminal record compared to Harris’ upbeat campaign.

A significant number of Americans didn’t bother voting at all. Others, who are not part of the MAGA cult, actually voted for some progressive Democrats and for Trump! (Wrap your mind around that if you can.)

There was a recent article on Daily Kos about New Yorkers who voted for both AOC and Donald Trump. AOC put out a survey for the AOC-Trump voters to ask them why. Some of the responses she received were from out-of-state voters who couldn’t have voted for her anyways but who nevertheless voted for Trump at the top and Democrats along the rest of the ballot. One of those responses said this:

“I live in PA and voted (sic) trump and rest D. Kamala just had no (sic) policy’s it was scary.”

Of course, Kamala Harris did have policies. And to anyone who has been paying attention, another Trump presidency is what’s really scary!

There has been a lot of “Monday Morning quarterbacking” since the election. One of the criticisms is that Harris or the Democratic Party in general supposedly did a poor job of “messaging”. Kamala Harris clearly presented her policies and overall vision for America in numerous speeches and interviews, but not everyone listened. Those who didn’t bother listening to the message thought that there was no message.

Democratic candidates can speak about their policies until they’re blue in the face; but they can’t make all of America listen to them. Please don’t blame candidates for “failing to communicate” with people who don’t bother listening.
