Ouch!! The stupid burns! I have no salve for the pain that I feel in the wake of this election. I’m not here to give my post mortem take on “what went wrong”. Nope! Kamala ran an excellent 90 day campaign. She left Amerikkka with a clear choice. She was competent, articulate, thoughtful, empathetic, and optimistic VS TFG. Clearly the choice wasn’t clear. Now, we on the left, have a choice. We can continue to divide ourselves further as is currently happening in a blamegame orgy on Tik Tok and other social media platforms , or we plan, organize, and attempt to hold the tatters of the remains of our Republic intact. This will be the challenge. In four years the damage done to this Republic may render it unsalvagable. The fracturing of the Democratic coalition may also be irreparibly harmed. Black women have had it. For decades they have been the backbone of the Democratic Party. If America as a whole voted as Black Women do, Scandanavian countries could no longer claim to be the world’s happiest people. They would be envious of our education system, our healthcare, our child care, our labor laws, our retirement pensions, and our infrastructure. Our party without the leadership and support of Black women is akin to the Jackson Five without Michael. Democrats would be just a group in search of a Michael. Black women felt betrayed by our Arab brothers and sisters. They felt betrayed by Latino men. They felt most betrayed, however, by White women. There was no real expectation that White men were going to be on board. Social media suggested that there would be some. White women voted for Cheetolini at over 53%.Really? Sisterhood was joke. Mind you, I’m not talking all White women. I’m talking to 8-10% who made the difference. This percentage of women stabbed sisters in the back. They chose proximity to patriarchy instead of forcing patriarchy to choose proximity to them.

There was a belief that Michigan’s Muslim population would recognize that the lesser of two evils would mean that thousands would perish, however at some point new leadership would insist on a ceasefire and a two state solution. It was beyond difficult to watch genocide happen before our eyes. It was impossible not to be outraged that the bombs had our names on them as they slaughtered civilian women and children. I recognize the difficulty of the task of possibly voting for more of the same. Trump, however, wasn’t going to be more of the same. He was going to give his bud Bibi his cosent to turn the West Bank into glass. Trump was going to wet his beak as Jarad got to build his luxury beachfront properties over the ruins of what was once Palestinian territory. Granted, it seemed like a Hobson’s Choice. Sadly you opted to take possible off of the table to choose the certainty of Bibi’s actions.

So now what? We watch as the picture fully sharpens. We prepare for the inevitable fuckery. We dust ourselves off. Then we get to work. What does that look like? So glad you asked. It looks like the 47% of White Women having some real, some ugly, some hard fought conversations with their mothers, grandmothers, sisters, nieces, aunts, cousins, and girlfriends. Importantly, those connversations need to be had in so-called RedAmerica with the same vigor as I’m sure they’ll be had in Blue America. When that’s done have the same conversations with your father’s, grandfathers, uncles , sons, nephews , husbands, and boyfriends. To my Muslim brothers and sisters, you are going to have to rebuild the bridge you burned. We have been your allies and can be again. You need to make amends.Inshallah. To my Latino brothers, at least those who’ll be sticking around. Sorry. Machismo is some old world colonizer shit that you need to leave behind. You sacrificed the women and girls in your lives for someone who unapologetically hates you. You have fucked around , and now ….you know the rest. Mind you in all of these cases , relationships may be damaged. In some instances beyond repair. Sadly, we don’t have the luxury of hurt feelings. The countdown has already begun. While I’m not in the prediction business I fully expect that as a jubilant GOP begins their reign of “error” , the very same people that voted for the Orange Menace will have buyer’s remorse sooner rather than later.People break up for a reason. Sometimes you need to get back together to realize why you left the asshole in the first place. Face meet leopard. SCOTUS is gone for generations. Accept it. We on the left must now play the long game. The future of the Republic is in elemetary, middle, and high school. You know the same people that leave the lights on, forget to take out the trash , and can’t clean their rooms are now responsible for our self inflicted mess. We must educate them. We must make sure that when their morality is tested by a presidential vote, they do not fail. We must find community. While the election results, provided that you believe the results suggest an insane shift in America, I still believe that there are more of us than there are of them. If there aren’t then make more with your conversations. Keep your heads up, Keep breathing, and when in doubt ask a Black woman for guidance.
