[1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2024-11-08 I know that a normal part of grieving is anger, and I know it has been only 3 days, but I am wondering how to get past my anger regarding my fellow Americans who voted in favor of hatred, selfishness, and incompetence. I feel angry toward everyone who pulled the lever for Trump, but I am especially digusted with those people who are reasonably intelligent and are old enough to know better. I honestly do not know what to do with family members and friends who fall into this category (there are, fortunately for me, just a few). I am just so disappointed in people who should have rightly refused to cast a vote for a candidate who has done, or does, any of the following list of things, let alone has done all of these things (I just came up with this list off the top of my head in a few minutes — I know there are a lot more things that can be added to the list): 1. Plotted and conspired to overturn the results of the presidential election 2. Watched and did nothing at all to stop an angry mob, that he incited, from trying to hang his own vice president 3. Chose Paul Manfort as his Campaign Manager, who was then sent to prison for lying about his associations with Russia. And then pardoned him. 4. Bestowed a medal of freedom on Rush Limbaugh 5. Claimed that there should be a complete Muslim ban 6. Made fun of a disabled reporter. 7. Says that January 6th was a day of love 8. Says that there were fine people on both sides of a neo-nazi rally. 9. Encouraged people not to wear masks during a global pandemic. 10. Hates people of color. 11. Wants to end the Affordable Care Act 12. Bragged about ending the protections of Roe vs. Wade 13. Has been indicted on something like 90 or 100 felonies, and so far has been convicted on 34 of them. 14. Was found liable for rape. 15. Has been cheating and lying and scamming people for at least 40 years. 16. Lost a law suit over a bogus college that he started 17. Wants the U.S. to get out of N.A.T.O 18. Admires Putin, Orban, Kim Jong Un, and certain things about Hitler, and does not care for the heads of democratic nations. 19. Says that the news media is the enemy of the people. 20. Will accelerate climate change by removing regulations. 21. Constantly insults women 22. Was quite friendly with Jeffrey Epstein 23. Promotes violence and supports violent, anti-government groups such as the Proud Boys 24. Disparages gay people. 25. Did great harm to the U.S. economy, including blowing up the deficit. 26. Wants to arrest democratic politicians who do not support him. 27. Wants to revoke the licenses of TV networks such as ABC, NBC, etc. 28. Suggested that people inject bleach and that Ivermectin cures COVID 29. Wants to deport 10 or 20 million immigrants, which besides being cruel beyond words, will destroy the U.S. economy 30. Broke the emoluments clause 31. Stole highly classified government documents and likely shared some of them with adversarial countries. 32. Is in favor of Putin overtaking Ukraine 33. Advocated for the death penalty for the Central Park 5. 34. Started a conspiracy that President Obama was not born this country, that he know was totally false. 35 Did a terrible job when the pandemic hit this country, first pretending it was not a big deal, and then bumbling how to deal with it, resulting in the death of something like a million Americans. 36. Demozies several already vulnerable minority groups, including the LGBT community and immigrants of color 37. Disparages the military and veterans, and their families, with hideous language and behavior. 38. Many members of his inner circle and cabinet during his term in office ended up in jail. 39. Many of this cabinet and military leaders who served under him have warned us, in no uncertain terms, that he is extremely dangerous and has no loyalty to the consitution. 40. Plans to end all trangender medical care. 41. Plans to have huge tariffs on all incoming goods, which will raise prices, cause other countries to put more tariffs on goods leaving the U.S., put small and medium size farms out of business, and, basically, destroy the U.S. economy. 42. Was impeached twice, and both times a majority of the Senate voted to convict. I am just having a hard time with the idea that some people that I know who I have always seen as kind, well-mannered, intelligent people, who love their children, like cats and dogs, etc., could actually vote for this dangerous, dispicable person. Are they just more selfish than I thought and they don’t care about the wellbeing of others; or do they have such intense fear and/or bigotry in them that I never saw; or is it something else? I welcome any suggestions about how I should deal, going forward, with family or friends who have so greatly disappointed me by their decision to vote for someone that, by now, they must have a pretty good idea of the kind of the kind of person he is. I don’t know if I will ever be able to see them in the same way that I did before. Do I sever my relationships with them? Do I just keep the relationship at a very minimal level? Do I confront them with my disappointment in them?
