Convictions [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2024-11-08 President Macron used that word in his congratulatory message to President Trump and to some it sounded like trolling and it may be , however apart from criminal convictions what does that word really mean? The other meaning is of strongly held opinion or belief (Merriam-Webster dictionary) especially in political opinion. Now from those convictions come actions that politicians take when they have the power and they usually get the power from constituents who vote for them believing the politician will take those actions based on those purported convictions. Politicians are not voted into power based on just one conviction but on amalgamation of convictions and expected actions depending on the coalition they gather to elect them. Future support from their voters to a strong extent will depend on how they are able to carry out those actions to the satisfaction of the majority of their voters. If they fail continuously their base is likely not to be too keen on making efforts to help them acquire future power. So if politicians are given power they either use it to archive their convictions (? wisely) or lose it. Biden still has power he can use. He can stop the genocide in Palestine once and for all and ensure safety and well being of the Israeli’s and Palestinians as continued blindness to the atrocities committed by one group while loudly decrying atrocities from the other group only ensures that this issue will continue until the Israeli’s fully cleanse the Palestinians. If that is his goal well and behold they may be within reach and we should just stop paying lip service to the humanity of the Palestinians. Fact is at this time Biden has no F***** to give about political expedience and he can use all the might of the US to reach a solution to that problem no matter who is unhappy with his solution. Yes, we finance Israel and pay for their war machine so that usual democrats crap of we can do nothing is not tenable. Biden can leave a legacy by solving that problem. Fact is I am sympathetic to those two groups although care little about their elites who are milking of the suffering of those people (Israeli’s and Palestinians).Trump will aim to assure the same thing here in the US against black and brown people it happened to the natives. What goes around comes around. It has happened her e before. I am just completing my second reading of A People’s History of the United States by Howard Zinn. Looking at the current election results it appears that democrats did not come out to vote sufficiently to elect their candidate. Why was that? My take is that sufficient enthusiasm was not generated by a feeling of futility, that electing democrats into power achieves nothing in the realm equity for the population and equal justice. What were some the issues that the Biden presidency had the power to address and failed to address in a timely manner? First and foremost is the insurrection of January 2024 that the Biden justice department let fester till so late in the term that efforts to prosecute it was easily derailed using loop holes embedded in our legal system. The leeway that was given to Trump to disparage and so distrust to our legal system showed a failure of the leadership to use the power they had to pursue their said convictions, which most of us, supporters of the democratic party believe is equal justice for all and protection of the constitution. A lot at this site kept making excuses for the failures of the Biden administration on this . Compare to what Trump did as president no matter how profane, but to his supporters he said it and he did it. He said he will ban Muslims and he did even if the ban was later overturned. He pardoned felons indiscriminately and in his campaign he has promised to pardon insurrectionists and his insurrectionist supporters are fully aware that he will do it no matter what obstacles he may face so there is more confidence on their side for Trump delivering to them than on the democratic side for democrats delivering to them Dejoy is still the post master general despite knowing he has been working in conflict with the goals of the USPS and nothing has been done despite outcries for his removal. I can go on and on but the most annoying was letting the coup leader go unindicted till it was too late,. although everybody concerned was shouting out, do something about this before he starts running for president and of cause Garland let it fester until he could no longer avoid the issue. Biden won his presidency and ran his presidency with using his strengths (white male) and weaknesses (trying to always accommodate the oppose, impotence in handling Netanyahu)) and may have won the current election if he had run, but it is apparent that his strength was not transferable to Harris while Harris inherited and had to answer for his weaknesses as regards the economy and the current Israeli Palestinian debacle in the middle East. The weakness of the democrats has always been in always compromising in favor of not angering republicans to the negligence of their convictions and their base. The big coalition that constitutes the democratic party (Blacks, whites, Asians, the various mix that constitute Latinos, people of different sexual orientation and gender identity) makes simple all inclusive message that will not be antagonistic to a group difficult create. The republicans always ride rough shod over what their opponents think and careless about due process so long as they fulfill their goal and thus keep their base always loyal and with the monied class on their side and having bought the SCOTUS it will be a grinding struggle for democrats. The most direct cause of this second presidency of the convict was President Biden choice for his attorney general and failure to seek and obtain just punishment for a failed coup attempt. Compare to a copy cat coup attempt in Brazil. Maybe the Brazilians not considering themselves a destined people were better able to enforce the law or we just had a weak justice department of leadership of the department. Note the fault is not Garlands, it was the mistake of the person who appointed him based on the persons political philosophy. Biden wanted someone of Garlands character, somebody who will not rock the boat rather than someone who will pursue justice for all and that was why he chose a judge steeped in all the self imposed restrictions of the justice department, and an innovation and conflict averse judge who became stumped when a completely new sort of crime (a coup), faced him. Having said that, the issues were already facing him before he took the job so a reasonable person could have foreseen that he would have difficulty coping and should have declined that job offer. Even me a complete novice in these things saw it at the announcement of pick for the justice department and voiced my worry. My partner who was aware I was not too strong a fan of Biden pleaded me to give him a chance believing I was raising my concern because I was not that big a fan. Note the above is not an excuse for people who did not vote or voted against the democratic candidate or voted third party as their vote or non vote will not make their wishes more attainable. We all need to take a deep breath recuperate and get ready for the fight ahead. Fortunately we do have a road map of the plan ahead with the 2025 project being public. Resistant needs to begin with careful strategy and challenge every step of the project. How to deal with SCOTUS is a big issue but it is not insurmountable. The democratic party need to pic an agenda and start looking for a leader. Money is an issue as we do not have too many deep pockets, however what this election showed is that all the money in the world will not help you if you do not have the proper message, able to deliver that message to those who need to hear it, and the benefits of all this TV advertising is marginal to say the least. In my heck of the woods in deep red Tennessee I never saw any democrat running for office Senator or Rep come around. Yes, there is minimal current support, by how do you build support if you do not come around. They is always ask for money and I try to contribute my widows mite, which is most likely spent in TV adverts that nobody sees or pays attention to. Biden should forcefully solve the Israeli-Palestinian issue. The recalcitrant party insisting on resolving the conflict strictly on their terms, is dependent on us to finance the country and their killing machinery. The US can do something about it and Biden is in the most suitable situation to do something about it and now. it will take away the balancing act a candidate has to do in an election, to show support for the humanity of two member groups of the democratic coalition.se.
