Life in a swing state has now become perilous. It used to be that one could deal with those on the other side as political opponents. I don’t think that, anymore. This election makes the other side into political enemies.

Here’s hoping these MAGA voters only resort to passive aggressive attacks on those of us who put up the Harris signs and affixed Harris stickers to our bumpers. We identified ourselves. I noticed some neighbors shunned my wife and I when the day we displayed for whom we would vote with our campaign signs. Now that the MAGAs have won, the next chapter of neighborliness is certain to become challenging. We know the ones who shunned us. The others who say the equivalent of, “God bless you,” with a smile are the ones to watch out for. B J. Novak’s movie, Vengeance, showed what it really means is F. U.

What we need to do is to know who’s on the other side. I plan to casually ask, “ Did the election turn out the way you wanted?” Once they answer in the affirmative, we know who they are.

I speculate that when Trump’s actions again frustrate the polity, it will feed their anger. Knowing who they are ahead of time will aid in preparing to hide from them. The MAGA universe is built on cathartic release, and I don’t want it to come down on me.

In two years, we get midterm elections and perhaps it will be a repeat of 2018.
