[1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2024-11-06 What now? Well, the nation has just been taken over by a cabal of insane fascists. What now? The problem is that one of my degrees is in history. I never finished the psychology degree, but that field of study also applies. I have seen what humans can do in this kind of situation. Trump has promised to be a dictator. He has amassed a group of absolutists and fascists and worse to run things. The best of them can be described, conservatively, as insane. And they have had years to plan for this. Given his stated plans, I anticipate: Financial chaos within six months. The markets went nuts this morning when the financial people realized they would be allowed,even encouraged, to do whatever they want for the next four (or more)years. Regulation will be a thing of the past, and given the actions they have taken just recently, and the mechanisms in place, I expect something along the lines of 1929, but worse. Trump’s love of Elon Musk and other plutocrats, plus his desire to gut the government, means that all civil rights can be expected to vanish very quickly. The national budget will be gutted, with all of the money going to profit Trump and his backers. Expect your standard of living to be zero or less within a year. Remember thep hotos of people needing wheelbarrows of Marks to buy a loaf of bread? And of course, anti-trust is dead. That loaf of bread will be from Kroger or WalMart. With prices that will be absurdly high and rising. Once the tariffs are in place and regulation is done,imports will virtually cease. Trump’s hatred of anyone not him will also be a national trend. Do you remember the word “Pogrom”? Expect to see one in your neighborhood. Lynchings on a national level. Do not be surprised when shops are shut down, people vanish, and brown-shirts on the streets are a normal thing. They might not dress like nazis (then again, they might. Trump and nazis are beet buddies after all), but they will be out there, along with lots and lots of volunteers wanting to do the same job. If you are a well known progressive, expect a knock on the door. I hope our leaders have good security, because, well, ask Nancy Pelosi’s husband, or Gretchen Whitmer, what happens when mobs hate you, and are encouraged to hate you. Those Jan 6 rioters will be pardoned and out on the streets in no time, and they all have giant chips on their shoulders, and access to firearms. If you have an account with any website the Trumpers dislike, you will be on their enemies list. The lists have already been compiled. With the senate lost, and the house, and the supreme court, expect no organized resistance. Instead, expect opposition leader to be disappeared. Expect labor leaders, social leaders, and just about anyone who speaks out to either be jailed, or just plain lynched,depending on location. Are you old? Do you have any medical conditions? If so, expect to die, and soon. ACA is history. Any potential control over the greed of insurance companies is history. Your insurance rates (if you can get history) will skyrocket, with no corresponding increase in care. Are you anything other than a WASP? Expect trouble. You don’t go to church (an approved church, not just any church)? Expect harassment or worse. You’re gay or bi or trans or anything but a posturing, macho, testosterone-poisoned patriarch? Expect any legal standing to be flushed, at best. Trannies and drag queens and the like will learn, first hand, what ‘Kristallnacht” refers to, and those who stand with them will be treated the same. Which leads to the ‘mass deportations’ that have been so oft-repeated in Der Trumpenfuhrer’s remarks. They will just be a start. No idea where he plans on sending all of those unfortunate people, as I expect our southern border to be a war zone (perhaps literally) within months, and maybe he’ll just set up camps like Manzanar or worse (probably worse – he got a lot of inspiration from Joe Arpaio), but those he and his Klan buddies will be gleefully busy setting the stage for the next chapter of “Roots.” And that’s just domestically. Overseas, expect Ukraine to fall. Trump will pull out of NATO, as he has always promised/threatened to, and without our support, Ukraine will fall, which will embolden Putin. He wants the old Sovie tre-established, with himself as Stalin. Expect Viktor Orban and his buddies to jump on that train. Expect Gaza to be not just decimated, but eliminated. Trump loves dictators, and Bibi definitely qualifies. Expect the border between north and south Korea to heat up. And if it does, expect Trump to pull our troops from the region. Expect Central America to become a hot zone, with gangs and warlords controlling things outright, as they already do in much of the middle-east. That will cascade down the financial markets, but now refugees from there will have nowhere to go. The President of Mexico will have to deal with crises north and south, and that will not end well. Expect authoritarian regimes to rise everywhere, the world economy togo into shock, and the environment to be assaulted at every stage. I intend to resist as well as I can. I just closed my 401k, before the markets to cataleptic. I will remain on some social media and remain as active as before, but will close other accounts, even though my name is almost certainly on someone’s hit list just for existing. Daily Kos and similar websites I expect to be shut down very quickly, and anyone who defends them to be sued out of existence. The DOJ will be militarized, as will all branches of the federal government. In some cases literally. Then again the military itself I expect to be hollowed out. Mikey Weinstein is undoubtedly high on their enemies list, and the MRFF will not last long. The Air Force model of mandatory religious fanaticism will be the standard, and gays and women in the military can expect to be ousted and/or jailed very soon. Military infrastructure will go the way of civil infrastructure, and any high-tech jobs in the service will exist only to feed the boards of the big profiteer companies. Our navy will end up like the Russian navy, which will make Xi and the Chinese very happy. Without organized and intentional resistance, China will expand its influence, and probably assault Taiwan within 2 years. And Trump will accept bribes from them and do nothing. Manufacturing will be under their control, and US based plants will close down. And those are the easy answers. I fear it will be much worse than that. I have no answers. We used them all up last night. Do what you can, and we will work together. If we live, maybe we will be cellmates.
