[1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2024-11-06 “The economy” is actually doing well overall, but there’s been a bigger problem for decades now: Inequality. When people are hurting financially, struggle to pay bills, can’t buy a house, etc, then they tend to blame the incumbent, as well as elites, rich folk, city folk, immigrants, and so on. And it’s looking like enough voters blamed Biden/Kamala for the inequality, and somehow imagined that Trump would make their situation better. They’re in for a rude awakening, and we’ll all have to pay for their mistake. To be fair, Kamala did have some great positions on issues that really help people, like healthcare, prescription med prices, down-payment assistance for a home, supporting unions, child tax credit, etc (feel free to mention more in the comments). But she had a very short time to get out that message, and people of course would think: “Why are we just hearing about this now? You’ve been in office 4 years. Why isn’t inequality fixed already?” And that’s really the bigger problem — inequality is a hugely ingrained problem in our country. It will probably take a whole movement, and several presidential terms, and Supreme Court reform, and filibuster reform, and lots of other changes to really address the problem. I hope the next candidate has a Bernie Sanders type of focus on personal economic issues, and more time to get the message out. It MUST be the main issue. And that person will be an “outsider” (non-incumbent), which is good. And there’s no way Trump is going to help people who are struggling, so that will be helpful. Ok please don’t call me a “Bernie-bro”, or any kind of bro actually.
