A Girl Dad Thoughts on Last Night's Election [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2024-11-06 The 2024 Presidential Election was a startling night for many of us. By the time the first polls closed, it felt like the race was already decided. I turned in around midnight, hoping for sleep, but spent the night haunted by thoughts of a political landscape dominated once again by Trump and the unmistakable tally of 201 electoral votes by 10 pm. It was a restless night, one that left me questioning some deeply held beliefs about the country and its people. I still believe that most people are open-minded, ready to embrace progress and diversity. Yet, last night, it became clear that, for a slim majority, cultural control and the promise of security outweighed those ideals. Hope alone, as some may see it, doesn’t pay the bills. The hardest part was talking to my daughters, who watched as another woman’s campaign fell short of the White House. Can I still tell them, with full conviction, that they can achieve anything with hard work and determination? The political reality doesn’t make that dream feel any closer. Yet, while the result may feel like a setback, I’m not entirely alone. Nearly half of the voters cast ballots for a different vision of America, one that aligns with my own hopes for the future. It may feel dark today, but the values I hold dear still have a powerful presence across the country. This is just a chapter, not the end of the story.
