New Manifesto for Democratic Party [1]

I am absolutely not even the vicinity of being an expert on any of these issues. Okay? I'm just a smart and old person.

So, feel free to think, or say, that my ideas are foolish. But remember: nothing even close to what Harris does works. If we can’t beat Trump for goodness sakes—given what he’s said and done since 2016—it’s clear that the party has to abandon even its core strategies. It’s like the Los Angeles Dodgers or some other excellent baseball team lost to a class A minor league team.

With that in mind:

To a certain extent, a politician’s or political party’s beliefs are not terribly important. If a politician is even vaguely democratic, that should be good enough to support him or her. All we should care about is this: can he or she manipulate people to get their support? It’s all about manipulation, once the even vaguely democratic positions are in place.

The democratic party has no simple bumper sticker identity. If they wanted one—and maybe they should, given how manipulation works best without even the slightest nuance—here’s one:

Democratic party = the party of the middle class, making the economy work for them.

That’s the whole identity. Define "middle class” so it’s big and people want to identify with it. No democratic politician should talk about anything else.

“What about dealing with sexism?” Fuck you.

“What about dealing with racism?” Fuck you.

“What about foreign policy issues?” Fuck you.

“What about environmental issues?” Fuck you.

“What about gender issues?” Are you joking? Fuck you twice.

“What about social issues?” Fuck you.

“What about the poor?” Fuck you (politicians should say “you’re in the land of great opportunity; pull yourself up like others have”).

Instead, make it simple: the democratic party is here to make the economy work for the middle class. That’s all we will work on, and fuck everything else.

Sure, the party would lose a ton of supporters—millions and millions, for sure. But they would probably gain more. If you’re not in power, you are ineffectual, period.

And yes, I’m suggesting that as a matter of manipulation, they say “fuck you” to all those important issues. Not because they don’t matter. It’s because they aren’t winners. Remember: we talked about those issues and couldn’t even defeat Trump in 2024.

I realize that this idea is probably a bad one. But it’s just the first part of a brainstorming session. Whatever we do next, it has to be wildly different from what’s been done. To repeat: we couldn’t even beat a pathetic candidate like Trump.
