Open Letter to Undecided Voters [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2024-11-04 Open Letter to Undecided Voters Dan Bracken As Election Day barrels towards us, the barrage is in full swing: “Vote for (Republican candidate)/ Vote for (Democratic candidate).” Ads ad nauseum. It is hard to decide WHO to vote for. Often, this decision is not made until you are in the voting booth. How are things going for you that day? I humbly suggest that we ignore the aforementioned barrage, and instead focus on WHAT to vote for. Democrats win, and the economy will begin to regain its sanity. Our economic standing will improve. Republicans win, and we all lose: Picture us 345+ million Americans on a massive triangle. The wealthiest Americans are at the tip-top, and the rest of us find ourselves at various points below. However, those few people at the top are continuing to get even wealthier, and the top is getting increasingly further away from the rest of us. The Triangle is being stretched. The stretching has created holes all across the triangle. Eventually, the middle will be completely gone. No matter how well you may be doing financially, with each passing day you get closer to the bottom than the top. An even bigger problem: The Triangle is getting steeper all the time. It has become impossible to improve your financial standing. With each passing day, increasingly more of us can no longer hold on. Media companies have us screaming at and blaming each other as we slide off the bottom of The Triangle. Vote for Democrats, and you will be electing leaders who will work tirelessly to get The Triangle under control. Capitalism dictates that The Triangle will always be there. Democrats will work to make it less steep. We the people don’t have to be under so much financial stress. Only Democrats are forever determined to help the less fortunate. As we all worry that we are headed for the bottom of the triangle, we find we can no longer concern ourselves with the less fortunate. We fear that if our leaders help those who are struggling the most, we will lose even more of what dwindling wealth we have left. We all know The Golden Rule: treat our neighbors as ourselves. However, too few of us are able to obey it. Most of us literally can’t afford to.” We are free-falling down The Triangle, ever precipitously closer to falling off completely. Deep inside none of us believe that anything can ever be done about this, so we just keep working more, and cutting corners everywhere we can. Our health suffers. We have precious little leisure time. Desperate to make ends meet, we are tricked into believing leaders who always tell us what we want to hear, but never the truth. According to them, the stretching of The Triangle is good for everyone. Seriously? If you choose Democrats up and down your ballot, you will no longer be constantly losing ground on The Triangle. In fact, upward mobility will once again be possible! I thank you for taking a few minutes to read this essay. I endeavor to give you something to consider when you vote on Tuesday. As I write I keep thinking about January 6, 2021. At first shocking glance those people were all so angry, but what they truly were- and are- is scared and desperate. They are in dire financial straits, and are forced to fight to survive. Far away and above it all, the small handful of Americans at the tip of The Triangle couldn’t care less about the rest of us. Given our precarious positions on The Triangle, I completely understand the appeal of Donald Trump, but what about the rest of your ballot? Please think about WHAT, in fact, your votes will mean.
