[1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2024-11-03 Indications and rumors are swirling fast that we might be about to win. Maybe even win big. Is it safe to admit this? Is it wiser to stay maximally scared right up until the last vote is cast? It has often been said: Republicans approach a tight election by planning to win, and Democrats by planning to lose. But is one approach actually... smarter? Optimism can rally your supporters, or make them complacent. Pessimism can galvanize a mood of all-out urgency, or despair. With Donald Trump, there was long a theory that if we could just pop his balloon of optimism—his facade of strong-man dominance—then the air would go out. He would deflate. His followers would abandon him. It didn’t happen. But what if it’s happening right now? Should we try to deflate the balloon even faster, so that his followers’ own morale dips as they realize they’re backing a loser? Or, with so much at stake, is it sheer insanity for us to risk dropping the temperature on our own urgency? Our band created a one-minute song aimed at deflating the Trump balloon. At the last minute we’ve been hesitating to share it around because of all the questions above. We just posted it on Youtube. But… what do you think?
