Canvassing in Reno, GOTV [1]

Three of us drove over Donner Pass from Davis, CA, early yesterday morning to help with GOTV in Reno. The Sierra really was Nevada, but not enough snow on the road to deter 50 or so from Davis and more from Sacramento and the Bay Area. Huge volunteer turnout with high enthusiasm.

We set out with two lists on our apps on phones and flyers to leave if no one was home (the majority.) One area almost all Hispanic, small homes with tidy gardens, some very creatively decorated, which appealed to me. Everyone had dogs — woof and yay! Of those I saw, at least 6 had already voted — I stopped keeping count — and were hopeful but worried. One had moved, and the two new residents had already voted for TFG but were not hostile. I told them I hoped everyone in the country who is eligible would be able to vote, too, and glad they cared.



Got one 15 year old whose mom hadn’t voted yet and explained to him how to get her vote in and left the card with instructions. He said he’d help and make sure!

The next area was more rural-ish, large lots, many fenced with keep out signs. One Black man had voted and we chatted a bit; he was a big Harris fan but worried. He was big on importance of voting and talked it up with friends and family.

At this point we ran into another team with almost the same list who had finished most of the rest. We went back to office for a new list and there were no more — every D or independent in Reno area not known to be a Trump supporter or already having voted had been sent a volunteer yesterday. We stayed overnight and will go back to headquarters this morning but expect to be switched to curing ballots.

The ground game at least in Reno is pretty awesome! The app is very user friendly though we ran into a few glitches that appear to be in back-end programming, database interface perhaps.

Came back from dinner to see SNL cold open. MVP Harris is fantastic, and fingers crossed for Tuesday. Hope all of our little bits add up to make her 47 and Mango Mussolini a bad glitch in history.
