America. Half Full or Half Empty. You Choose. [1]

America. Half Full or Half Empty. You Choose. How is it possible that we, Americans, sit here with less than a week to go before the most important election in the modern era and half of America thinks that a person like DJT is equal to Vice President Kamala Harris when it comes to becoming the next President of the United States of America. How is this election even close? ”Inconceivable!”, to quote one of my favorite movie lines.

I have nearly always voted Blue as a 55+ year old married, white, male with a few Red Voting exceptions (true Center Leaning Candidates) early in my late 20’s and early 30’s and no Red Votes in the last 20 years. I come from very humble and poor upbringing in Southern Louisiana and I remember my hard working blue collar Dad always said that things were always better for the poor when a Democrat was in the White House no matter what either party said. My Dad said that it didn’t really matter what either side said or what they promised he just knew that when a Democrat was President things were better for us, poor hard working blue collar people.

I’m a Half Full type of person. I have been that way most of my life and I have tried to live by the Golden Rule: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. I am more of a spiritual person than religious, even though I’m frustrated at times with the execution of strict religious rules and regulations based on 2,000 year old hearsay written by “Man”. I am a WWJD (What Would Jesus Do) Catholic where I work to put myself in the other person ‘shoes’ and do my best to help my fellow human when I can. I’m Pro Choice, Pro LGBTQ+, Pro “It’s Not My Business to Tell You Who to Love or What to Do”. Not My Business.

Again, I’m at at a loss thinking that Half of Americans think a person like DJT is the right choice for American now. Inconceivable!

Now, my Half Empty thoughts creep in, which is not my normal method of thinking. Maybe we as America/American’s need to learn a hard and difficult lesson and:

Loose our right to Vote, Loose our right to Choose what is right for our bodies, Loose our right to choose who we can Love and Marry. As the Father of two amazing strong, intelligent, Daughters I’m scared as hell for them should this future come to pass. AND, when the highest voter turnout in more than 100 years still only had 66% Voter Participation (2018 Pew Research Center) I proves that at lease 34% of Americans don’t care enough about their personal rights to even show up and vote once every four years.

Maybe it is time for Americans to loose those rights, so they can remember how Precious, Valued, and Important these hard fought and hard won rights are for ALL Americans. We may not be the greatest country in the world but, “We Could Be”, we really could be. It wouldn’t be that difficult, but that is for another time.

As I switch my thoughts back to Half Full again and hope that more Americans choose to see this election as Half Full not Half Empty and hope that Americans choose to Vote for Harris and Walz and the possibility of a better future.

I truly hope that we are headed towards a Gene Roddenberry future not a George Orwell future.
