Charges Filed After Violence From GOP Candidate Results in School Lockdown [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2024-10-30 A Republican candidate for Navajo County office is charged with felony gun crimes after allegedly pulling a pistol during a road rage incident, and creating a disturbance that resulted in the lockdown of a nearby school. Timothy Jordan of Lakeside, candidate for Navajo County Recorder, is a leader of a group seeking to take control of Navajo County by running a slate of candidates in the Nov. 5 election. The County Recorder runs the county’s elections, and also files deeds and other important documents. The incident began Wednesday, Oct. 23, when Jordan, admittedly speeding, rolled through a stop sign in front of the White Mountain Christian Academy on Show Low Lake Road in Show Low. Police said he engaged the occupants of another car by yelling profanities. “Jordan told police the other vehicle tried running him off the road and cut him off to prevent him from turning into the school,” according to booking paperwork. “Jordan said three occupants exited the car, and two of them displayed pistols and fled the area. Witness statements and video surveillance from the school proved Timothy’s story was inaccurate and misleading to law enforcement.” “Timothy admitted he lied to police and said he was the one who pulled his pistol out and approached the vehicle,” the police document said. “The occupants of the other car told law enforcement they had seen Timothy reach for his waistband [which] terrified them, and they then fled in fear for their safety.” Meanwhile, “Timothy’s vulgar language and the sound of their screeching tires were heard by a worker that was inside the school,” the document said. “The worker said she was concerned about Timothy’s language because the school was a Christian school. During the incident, kids were being let out of school, and when the principal was notified, the remaining students, parents and teachers were pulled into the school, and the doors were locked.” Jordan, who has a court appearance scheduled for Wednesday, has been released on a $3,500 bail, according to the Navajo County Jail. The incident involved two counts of disorderly conduct, one with a weapon. That is a felony in Arizona. His false statements to police about the weapon are a misdemeanor but could affect his ability to perform the duties as County Recorder, if elected. There are some limitations on felons serving in high office in Arizona, but allegedly getting involved in such an incident only days before an election is an unusual circumstance. The victims in the road rage were reported to be Apaches, but reporters have so far been unable to reach them. Jordan has been involved in attempts to suppress Native American votes. His group lied during early voting and told Democrats they were to vote on a different day than the date established for all early voters in Whiteriver.
