Why Talking Matters [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2024-10-29 I did some phonebanking to North Carolina tonight. In the dozens of phone calls I had only 2 who said "we are voting Trump". Most that answered had already voted and voted Harris. My two most interesting conversations were with young moms. One was a lean Harris but “don't know if I will vote.” We talked about her policies and how they will help young families with kids. Then I mentioned the racism on Sunday night. She said she heard about it but didn't really know what happened. I asked if she was on speaker phone and her kids could hear. She said yes, and I said I would not repeat what was said. She said "I can imagine, I will vote, I promise." The other was a registered republican who said she couldn't vote for Trump but would vote 3rd party because she is pro-life. We talked about personal experiences of people close to us including her friend who needed and got (3 years ago) a d&c after a miscarriage. Her greatest worry was that if it happened today her friend would have died. I acknowledged that and pointed to her to the increase in maternal mortality rates in Texas. I encouraged her to see what Harris actually says and ignore that some people say Harris says. She said she would read the website and pray before voting. I feel pretty good about that phonebanking session.
