Calling Michelle "Nasty"Was a Big Mistake for Trump [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2024-10-29 During his remarks after the day after the vile remarks at what was supposed to be Trump’s capstone Madison Square Garden Event — but may have been his electoral graveyard — Trump did not not only apologize for remarks that Puerto Rico was only a “floating island of garbage,” he kept the incendiary story alive by charging that Michelle Obama was “nasty,” and that she had opened a “box” that was a “big mistake,” which could be taken as a threat. He also made the bewildering comment, “I am not at Nazi.” Her favorability rating is 66% or higher; Trump’s is stalling at about 40%. The normalization of Trump’s authoritarianism is epitomized by race and misogyny. This is why he is so inflamed by Black women saliently criticizing him. Michelle Obama epitomizes the target of Trump’s hypermasculine racism and misogyny. However, the casual attack on Michelle Obama will come back to haunt him. It will keep the story of Trump’s MSG horror of his “American Carnage” alive. Count on Barack Obama to denounce the denigration of his wife, giving another news cycle to a rapidly changing media environment that is now calling Trump out on his fascist attacks on “the other” and “the enemy within.” Harris has won the past two news cycle days, and with her iconic rally on the Ellipse, which is likely to be attended by an enormous crowd, she will rise to the occasion and win a third news cycle day. Count on Trump losing a fourth day to Harris, as he is protested in Allentown, whose residence of Puerto Rican ancestry make up more than half the population. It will not go well. Trump is doubly down on his dream of demagogic vilification. He delivered a news conference this morning in Mar-a-Lago, which from the same “old tired playbook” as Harris has called it. It is frayed and tattered and now stale and rancid. Furthermore, most news reports don’t include the incessant insults and stereotyping of non-Christian, non-white Americans, at his final MSG closing. What we saw was a master-class grifter trying to close his one last sales by fully unveiling his narcissistic, repulsive contempt for America. Every day Harris wins the news cycle will increase her voter turnout. With the grotesque denigration of Puerto Rico that Trump will not disavow, the Key Keystone Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, with 400,000 residents who identify as of Puerto Rican background, and the press finally revealing that he is the Wizard of fascism with the curtain now fully open, as he revels in his depravity, the table may finally be turned in this election. Harris was criticized for focusing on Trump’s divisiveness, threat to democracy, and fascism. She was courting Puerto Rican voters in PA when Trump’s surrogate flagrantly slandered a voting block. Her timing was fortuitously impeccable.
