Gathering

For decades we celebrated Thanksgiving with family and friends at our home. Our dining room is large, and we were able to accommodate two dozen people at the maximum. It was a lot of work. but very enjoyable. Not many folks have a home venue large enough for such a gathering.

I mentioned yesterday that we were going to attend a family gathering at a local restaurant. Our Cambodian Daughter-in-Law’s family arrived in the United States 43 years ago yesterday. Our DIL arranged the whole event, and invited family and a few close friends. Since it was to be outdoors, there was much worry about the weather, but it couldn’t have been better, accompanied by one of the most spectacular sunsets I’ve seen since we moved to our condo. Family ties were renewed and the younger generation, presently scattered, renewed friendships.

The restaurant, Salt and Stone, did a great job with the food, with salmon, fillet mignon, salads, and much more. There was wine as well, supplied by our DIL’s sister, who works in the wine industry.

Speaking of gatherings…..we have been invited to several election night parties. I had no hesitation in turning them down. Nobody knows at this point, but there’s two songs that might be played, and there’s only one I wish to hear.
