Women Are Deciding This Election [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2024-10-25 Since 1980, more women register to vote than men. Last Presidential Election 53% of registered voters were women, and 47% were men. Since 1980, registered women are slightly more likely to turn out than registered men: 53.1% of voters were women vs 46.9% male. This trend has generally been increasing since 1980, when men used to vote more than women. The gender gap is larger among African American women and Latinas than among white women. Let me repeat. In 2020, when Tr*mp appealed most to white men without college degrees, turned out low propensity voters, and before Roe was overturned, men were significantly outnumbered by women at the polls. Biden and Tr*mp split the male vote evenly, so the election was decided by women, who voted for Biden 55-44. Obviously, Tr*mp lost by about ½ that margin. There are three gender gaps: registration, turn out, and candidate preference. Women registered more, turned out slightly more and preferred to vote for Biden, deciding the last presidential election. This election is different. Kamala Harris is at the top of the ticket. Tr*mp’s 3 hand-picked conservative Justices, after promising otherwise, voted to overturn Roe, taking away 50 years of women’s rights to reproductive healthcare. Women are justifiably motivated to vote to get their rights returned and to see themselves represented in leadership. So far, among 35.5 million early vote results, the race appears very close, according to party registration. Many of the experts polling, analyzing and commenting on the race are men, and they tend not to focus on women in proportion to their share of the electorate. But if you look by gender, women are voting more than men 53% to 45%. Here are the early battleground results by gender. Arizona: women 48%; men 44%; unknown 8% Georgia: women 56%; men 44% Michigan: women 57%; men 43% Nevada: women 44%; men 46%; unknown 10% North Carolina: women 54%; men 45% Pennsylvania: women 56%; men 43% Wisconsin: women 52%; men 42%; unknown 6% There are plenty of unknown factors. Will Tr*mp significantly increase his % of male voters when competing against Harris? Will a significant % of Republican women cross over and vote for Harris? And voting has only just begun. But so far, women are deciding this election. Vote for Kamala! Vote Early! Get out the vote! When we vote we win!
