Don't Let the Pro-Trump Media Off the Hook [1]

For the record I think Kamala Harris is going to win the 2024 presidential election. Aside from polls that show her with a slight lead, and the fact that there are reproductive rights measures in multiple swing states that I think will boost progressive turnout and could tips the scales, I also have a belief in the general decency of Americans. That may be naive, but my common sense tells me that most Americans do not want to see the country on fire and the Constitution shredded.

That being said, it’s a disgrace that we’re even in the situation where we have a neck-and-neck race for the future of our country. And the one common thread — between Trump’s rise to power in 2016, his ability to subvert the justice system and avoid accountability, and his potential to torture our country yet again from a position of power — is a Pro-Trump media that whitewashes and normalizes both his criminal behavior and his total lack of humanity and decency.

I’m not talking about the obvious right-wing media like FoxNews and the New York Post. I’m talking about the “Media” in general. All of them. Collectively. They are ALL complicit. Now, I’m willing to set aside for the moment the things Trump has allegedly done or said. For instance, whether he said that he admired Hitler’s generals, or that Americans that died at Normandy during WWII were suckers. I didn’t hear him say those things, even though I most certainly do believe that he did. I’m talking about the instances of Trump’s depravity that we either witnessed first-hand , or that are official record . Just a brief list here, because we all know the full list would go on almost endlessly:

He publicly asked Russia to spy on a fellow American to win an election (we saw that)

He tried to get the Georgia Secretary of State to falsify the 2020 results (we heard that)

He incited the January 6 attack on the Capitol (it was all over the news)

He was impeached — twice — with some support from his own party (official record)

He was caught hoarding top secret documents in Mar-A-Lago (the bathroom pictures were lol)

He was convicted of multiple felonies — and still awaits his sentencing for those convictions (court of law)

But when I read articles about Donald Trump, those things are not even mentioned. Instead, we get headlines like “What Would the Stock Market Look Like During a 2nd Trump Presidency?” Or “Trump Makes Inroads with Latinos.” You know, just ho-hum, it’s President Season again, here’s some story ideas. How are his MULTIPLE IMPEACHMENTS, his FELONY CONVICTIONS and HIS ATTEMPTED COUP not in the headline and first paragraph of every single story about this guy for the rest of his life?

Can you imagine a story about Khalid Sheikh Mohammed where they DON’T mention that he was the 9/11 mastermind. Where they just call him “Man imprisoned by US government.” Or a story about Charles Manson where they talk about his fashion sense, but don’t mention he was a murderer? It would be inconceivable. But no, we get a whitewashed headline like “Trump to Hold Rally in NYC.” He’s a f**king convicted felon! The conviction was in freaking New York City!
