Non-Union Workers Need Help Too [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2024-10-24 I’ve made this observation: President Biden and now more recently Vice President Harris has mentioned many times that his economic plans create high paying union jobs $40 or $50 dollars per hour. This statement doesn’t necessarily send the intended positive message since only approximately 11% of the workforce is unionized. It makes non-union poorly paid workers feel left out, whereas they should know that the government wants them to prosper. 17 states have a minimum wage of $7.25, some states a little more. (mostly red states?) A message that needs to get out is the acknowledgment of the great disparity in wages between these states and higher paying states, and an important goal is to lift these low paid workers up. The Vice President should let this these poorly paid workers know that he wants to see them paid more as well as them having access to medical benefits which are being denied them by red state governors. The Minimum wage in South Carolina is $7.25. Inflation in South Carolina and other mostly red states has a greater negative impact than states that have a higher wage.
