We’re down with my family today. With any luck I will be able to give my niece what she needs to deal with the insurance payout from AAA that nobody in the family knew my mother had the insurance. As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care! IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a PM to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news! ************************* A man in Quebec using Google Maps to plan a camping trip may have discovered the site of an ancient astroid impact. Recipes for classic cocktails. From punchdrink.com last month. Leonardo Da Vinci made perfumes. Progress in reducing child mortality, 1800 to 2022. From The Guardian. In September, but still interesting. A large deposit of fossils has been found under San Pedro High School in the L.A. area in California. Could you pass a US citizenship test? Golden lettuce. Interactive map of bird migration patterns, from the Audubon Society. The science of blood. In under five minutes. Seventeen types of grapes. ************************* Exciting week. Almost all my laundry is done. There are two, maybe three loads to be done next week. I’ve been getting deliveries and I actually made it out to buy groceries this past week. My voter pamphlets (yes, two — one for the regular ballot, one for the ranked choice) arrived last week and my granddaughter currently has them. My ballots arrived on Friday. I am going to have to turn the heat on at some point soon. Thursday night was cold enough I actually used my heavy blanket. That kept me warm enough to sleep. Chiropractic appointment went reasonably well. I got a mild scolding about keeping up with my exercises, and I didn’t hurt anywhere near as much when I got home as I had after last month’s appointment. Went over the voter pamphlets with the offspring on Saturday. We have a first-time voter in the family. We also live where the people in charge make every effort to make information available. This turned into more of an adventure than I’d expected, since several candidates on the regular ballot turned out to have their write-ups in the ranked-choice pamphlet. Same with some of the ballot measures. ************************* Love you guys!
