PWB Peeps, Fe-line Fine Fridaii The Raven and other ravings [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2024-10-18 One of my favorite poems The Raven, but first A gentle reminder of how we do things: đŸ±đŸ¶đŸŠ Do not troll the diary. If you hate pootie diaries, leave now. No harm, no foul. Please do share pics of your fur kids! If you have health/behavior issues with your pets, feel free to bring it to the community. Pooties are cats; Woozles are dogs. Birds... are birds! Peeps are people. Whatever happens in the outer blog STAYS in the outer blog. If you’re having “issues” with another Kossack, keep it “out there.” This is a place to relax and play; please treat it accordingly. There are some pics we never post: snakes, creepy crawlies, any and all photos that depict or encourage human cruelty toward animals. These are considered “out of bounds” and will not be tolerated. If we alert you to it, please remember that we do have phobic peeps who react strongly to them. If you keep posting banned pics...well then...the Tigress will have to take matters in hand. Or, paws. Its almost Halloween time to turn to Edgar Allen Poe’s The Raven: Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered weak and weary: Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore— While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping, As of some one gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door— 'Tis some visitor," I muttered, "tapping at my chamber door— Only this and nothing more." Ah, distinctly I remember it was in the bleak December; And each separate dying ember wrought its ghost upon the floor Eagerly I wished the morrow;—vainly I had sought to borrow From my books surcease of sorrow—sorrow for the lost Lenore— For the rare and radiant maiden whom the angels name Lenore— Nameless here for evermore
. And my soul from out that shadow that lies floating on the floor Shall be lifted—nevermore! The Raven consists of 18 stanzas and a total of 108 lines; according to a recent biography it took Poe 10 years to complete after constant revisions over the many years. He was more educated than most thought, spending several early school years in Britain and even a brief stint in Scotland; Poe is also considered to have invented detective fiction. And in that recent biography some time is spent trying to accuse Poe of hiding his bigotry within his writings, and if I recall correctly his Murders in the Rue Morgue the orangutan is a replacement for a Black character. I don’t like this kind of review; I’m sure many a reviewer, no matter the writer, is anxious to show us their intellect and insight—but sometimes for me it just ruins the story, which is why in many cases I don’t read the introduction until I’ve finished reading the book. Thank you for letting me rave, btw my favorite stanza is the 2nd, Ah distinctly I remember...each separate dying ember wrought its ghost upon the floor
.. Stay safe peeps and remember to the extent possible, all black cats should be kept inside in the days around Halloween. Me and Wisp wish you all a safe Halloween.
