GOTV Open Thread & Happenings October 18 – Crucial Weekend Begins [1]

Happy Friday. This is a big weekend. Time is finite and we need to rack up as many votes as we can.

Did you see Ben Wikler’s excellent diary today? Some great information about what you can do about your anxiety and how you can help: In a tied election, Dems have two modes: euphoria and panic. Take a deep breath and focus.

I love this advice that he leaves us with and I hope more of us see it:

[W]hen the race is on a knife’s edge, the slightest breeze in one direction or the other can make you feel like all is lost, or that victory is nigh. Feel your feelings. It’s natural. Let them wash through you. Trying to tell yourself not to be nervous can make you even more nervous. Think of yourself like a chain-link fence; a huge wind can rattle you, but it can’t knock you down. Then, once the whoosh has subsided, close your eyes. Inhale. Exhale. And then ask yourself what *you* can actually do in these final 18 days. And make a plan to do it.

Ben’s diary goes on to enumerate ALL KINDS of ways to help. He’s counting on you to help in Wisconsin but the advice works anywhere. Wisconsin is tight, but the Harris/Walz campaign will be there in a major way the next couple of days, and the weather looks good... great conditions for GOTV.

I mention it in every one of these but I hope that sharing these links and anecdotes encourages people to get involved. I know it might be a little intimidating (believe me, I get it) but give it a try. You’ll enjoy it!
