Hurricane Milton hit Category 5 today, and there’s very little that could change its path at this point. It’s path will take it through Central Florida and its very likely going to surpass Hurricane Andrew in terms of damage. I don’t see how it won’t, short of actual divine intervention. It’s going to make landfall practically on top of a major city, and is going to plow through a segment of Florida that houses a vulnerable population. The trajectory is clear.



The Governor of Florida refuses to take calls from the White House, and the GOP House refuses to appropriate more funds for emergency response despite a second once in a generation storm striking in less than a month. They’re content to sit there and do nothing because its the path they’ve been on for years. They’ve evolved from “The Party of No” to “The Party of No Ideas” to “The Party of No Ability to Function” in the last 16 years. The trajectory is clear.



There’s going to be a lot of discussion of what happens in the aftermath of this storm. There should be just as much discussion about what happened before it. About how governance at all levels was partially taken over by people who didn’t view it as their duty to govern. Winning is all that matters, they say, but the prize is never to bring about a better country to live in. We all knew something like this was going to happen one day. The trajectory was clear.



We’re about to have a major humanitarian crisis in the United States of America because an unstoppable force of nature is about to cross paths with a political party inherently opposed to governing. It was preventable, once upon a time. But now things are set on their course, and these two things will combine to create a disaster unlike anything we’ve seen for a long time.
