Refuting The Biggest Complaints about Millenials [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2024-10-07 I am a Millennial, and I’ve heard often the media complaints about Millennials, about us being entitled, being lazy, not keeping generation old businesses and scams going, wanting participation trophies, etc.. First on the entitlement… the hell do they mean? I feel entitled to nothing, most of my friends my age are grateful just to have roofs over our heads. We are so entitled not being able to sometimes choose between rent or health care, and usually health care is the one we chose to push to the side. No we aren’t entitled, we’re grateful we sometimes can even survive, so we lean on each other for help. Next on the being lazy… I work, literally all day every day to get almost no amount of pay. I am a freelancer. I get paid when the people who commission me get around to paying me, and that’s not always when I finish. My brother works two jobs, does a gig on the side, and sells his plasma far more often than one should to pay for his kids. We don’t have weekends, we don’t have vacations, we are happy to have an hour of free time. And yet we are called lazy because of some bizarre metric of us not working the types of jobs that are grandparents worked even though those jobs don’t exist anymore. Hell we do all that work and we need to live like five people to an apartment to break even. Third on the not keeping things from past generations around, we are blamed for killing large corporations, harming the DeBeers cartel, killing malls, Movie theaters, etc. You mean because we don’t feel like paying exorbitant prices on things or buying things we don’t need. We don’t need flashy things, we don’t need, we don’t have the money to go to theaters every week. Yeah we buy video games, because those give us experiences we can have time and time again. But we’re also critical of the game companies we buy games from. And yeah of course we don’t support the DeBeer’s Cartel and their diamonds… fuck them. Lastly on the “Wanting Participation Trophies” this is the one that always made me confused…. WE DIDN’T GIVE TWO SHITS ABOUT THOSE TROPHIES, it was our parents who wanted the participation trophies, because they would complain about “Why their kids didn’t get trophies.” That’s a blame on Gen Xers and Boomers not us. We didn’t care, we don’t care, we will never care. Many of us don’t even care about victory trophies. We just want to get stuff done and go home so we can have our one hour of free time and our three hours of sleep before we are back to work. Sorry about that, I just saw another article on “Millennial’s and Participation Trophies” and I got pissed off.
