Here's A Headline [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2024-10-07 Here’s a headline, currently up on the CNN web-site: “Supreme Court Won’t Let Biden Administration Force Texas Hospitals Provide Emergency Abortion Care” (here: www.cnn.com/...). Wait — Wha?…...who is forcing whom to do what? Is Biden is forcing TX hospitals to provide abortions? Is the Supreme Court is forcing doctors to stop treating pregnant women? Is TX forcing pregnant women to give birth? And why is CNN making this more confusing? From the article: “The high court’s handling of both the Idaho and Texas cases leaves unanswered questions about whether, under a [federal] law known as the Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act, federally-funded hospitals must offer abortions to emergency patients with pregnancy complications putting their health at risk – even in states that ban the procedure.” OK — maybe now I understand: TX is forcing pregnant women to give birth, the Biden Administration is pointing out that TX hospitals that receive federal funding are obligated to provide care for women with complications of pregnancy that threaten the woman’s health, and the Supreme Court is forcing TX women experiencing life-threatening complications of pregnancy to forego necessary medical treatment. I am disgusted by CNN’s spin of this news story. Maybe CNN should start using corduroy pillowcases for better, more clear headlines.
