PATCO [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2024-10-06 For the Teamsters and Firefighters who may not remember, PATCO was the Professional Air Traffic Controllers Organization. It was the air traffic controller’s union that was unhappy with the Carter administration and endorsed Ronald Regan for President in 1980. The Teamsters also declined to endorse Carter for reelection that year. As we all know, Regan won the election. The short story is that PATCO went on strike in 1981. Regan ordered the traffic controllers back to work under the Taft- Hartley Act. When most union members refused to return to work, Regan fired all of them. They were eventually all replaced and denied any other federal employment. For union members and other white blue collar workers who might not like Kamala Harris because she is female, black, Indian, and liberal, be careful what you wish for.
