Hi beer fans, happy Friday!

Bay Area readers might have been to San Francisco’s City Beer Store; it closed down a couple weeks ago. It’s hard to remember how different the beer scene was when they opened 18 years ago, and their selection of both European and American beers was unequaled. I’m sure they still had plenty of exotica that I won’t find at Total Wine, but you don’t need to go to a specialty beer store any more to find a wide variety of great beer. Closer to where I live, Mountain View’s Jane’s Beer Store slipped away a couple years ago without as much fanfare.

FNBB readers have followed my reporting through a lot of changes in the beer world as trends have come and gone (remember Black IPA? how about White IPA? or Belgian IPA?). My rule hasn’t changed: drink what you like.

Tonight I’ve got Maui Waui IPA from Altamont Beer Works, Livermore CA. Filtered, 6.5%abv, Mosaic and Citra hops. I’m going to have another.
