What I Took from the VP Debate [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2024-10-02 One part of the Vice-Presidential debate made clear the huge difference between the Republican and the Democratic candidates and their parties. I don’t know if other people were struck as I was when Mr. Walz compared the lies of Trump and Vance to yelling “Fire!” in a crowded theatre, because Vance immediately started overtalking him about “censorship.” I personally think Walz should have said something like: “Have you no morals? Have you no shame? You and Mr. Trump think it is acceptable to promulgate pernicious lies from a position of authority, knowing full well that those who follow you will likely act upon those lies to harm innocent others. This is exactly the moral equivalent of yelling “Fire!” in a crowded theatre, and this thinking is wrong and evil. This is what Mr. Trump did with his “Stop the Steal” gambit to overturn the 2020 election, leading to the January 6th insurrection, and it is what you, Mr Vance, did with your fabricated story of immigrants eating peoples’ pets.” This issue shows the fundamental difference between the campaigns. Trump and Vance will say anything and hurt anyone if they think it will benefit them. Truth has no value to them. And the entire Republican party has, for the most part, accepted this immoral and evil approach with open arms. As Voltaire said “Those who can cause you to believe absurdities can make you perform atrocities!” We are watching this play out in the Republican party on a daily basis. Given only this difference, I believe it is a reason to vote for only Democrats from Kamala down the line to your local dog catcher. This type of thinking is unacceptable, Trump and Vance are unqualified to be anywhere near the White House, and all Republicans who support them are immoral.
