It's hard to believe that even after all these years, Donald Trump continues to innovate in the art of the con.

The former reality TV star recently launched a luxury watch with an exorbitant price tag of $100,000. But don't let its glittering appeal fool you. In reality, the only quality element in the whole offering is the watch's mechanism, humbly manufactured just 10 km from my home in Switzerland for the modest sum of $3,000.

This is what a genuine $100,000 Swiss watch should look like.

But then, what is this watch really worth? The answer is clear: deceptively priced packaging. The synergy between the two elements - the Swiss mechanism and the rest of the components, whose provenance is virtually unknown - is a mere pretext to deceive potential buyers. One wonders if Trump really has the nerve to charge so much for what ultimately looks like nothing more than a pretty face.

Consumers are invited to consider the watch as a status symbol, a simple object that in reality is only worth a fraction of its price. This ostentatious luxury only underscores Trump's lack of respect for people's common sense. It sheds a harsh light on the manipulation of the luxury market and how these scams target the most gullible.

Poor fools, who really believe that paying such an exorbitant sum for a watch will elevate them to the ranks of the elite. Think again, consumers: investing in this gadget is the real scandal. A call to vigilance is called for in the face of this casual promotion of superficial values. Don't be fooled by Trump's shiny but hollow promises!
