Sunday Morning Open Thread With Music by Apollo's Fire [1]

Good morning, music fans. This morning’s piece is Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto Number 5, Movements 1, 2 and 3. Even if you’re not into classical music give it a brief listen. I’m sure you’ve all heard parts of it before. But first,

Our weather is currently back to Summerlike. We no more than get a hint of Autumn weather when the temps go charging back upwards. It’s supposed to be like that for the foreseeable future. We’re not supposed to get anything truly frigid until December. Then look out. They’re saying we’re in for another season when the Polar Vortex decides to park itself over us. The last time that happened my thermometer said 32 below zero.

My gardens have been a major failure this year. I can’t even find any of the pumpkin vines I planted last May. Pumpkins are heavy feeders. With my sandy soil I fertilized them several times but didn’t get anything but weeds. The only thing that did well this year were my apple trees. I already made a big batch of apple crisp. It looks like I’m going to be eating that recipe every day until this December. I have a problem, however. Most of the apples are hanging from high branches. I think the deer have been pulling off the low hanging fruit. If I want those apples I need to invest in an apple picker first. A $35 picker will be a worthwhile, one time investment.
