Kitchen Table Kibitzing 9/29/2024: Tin Foil Hat 2 [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2024-09-29 Augusto Giacometti: Home in Stampa (1943) Good evening, Kibitzers! side pocket had somewhere to go tonight, so he’ll be with you on Tuesday (for the debate!) and you’re stuck with me today. Post-storm conditions in North Carolina and Tennessee have been dire, and we’re grateful for every person we’ve learned is okay so far, and worried about the rest, and about everyone who must continue there now, while there’s no water, power, cell service, or way in or out. Meanwhile, the map of the Atlantic, so quiet for so long, has all kinds of potential storms lighting it up now. I hope none of them come to anything. No one needs any more of this than they have already been subjected to. Tonight’s dairy is one that I originally posted in June of 2017, so its vintage is early in the tfg “administration”, when Sean Spicer was still the press secretary and we didn’t yet know exactly how loathsome those people were (but we knew they were pretty damn loathsome). Funny story: a couple of years later, someone asked me how to unpublish a diary, and I try never to give that kind of advice without trying it to see if I remember correctly. I picked this already-old diary at random, not intending to actually unpublish it but recognizing that shit happens. And it did! My recollection was that, when you click the ‘unpublish’ button in the editor, it asks you, before it does anything, if you want to unpublish or delete. I was going to bail at that point. But alas, that point never came. (Probably a good idea; I bet they had people deleting stuff they didn’t mean to. Now it’s a whole separate thing.) So then I had this unpublished draft sitting around. I didn’t want to get rid of it, but if I published it again, it would act like a new diary and confuse us all. So here we are, the perfect application for this brief and mildly dated content: filling in for side pocket at the last minute! Note that this is a new draft, because a seven-year-old draft is trouble waiting to happen. I regret that it’s shed all its old comments — I have no idea what they were like, because the minute I unpublished, they became inaccessible through the diary. They’re still out there, of course; just hanging around in the orange ether like rogue stars. This is the text of the original diary, with a minor update: Tonight I have a song for you that my little brother sent me. (He probably hates that. He’s 55 62 for goodness’ sake. My younger brother.) Anyway, I will let him introduce it, via his email to me: I like anything by Todd Rundgren and I like anything by Donald Fagen and I would love anything that they did together. But this is just an extra level of awesome. (My added links, because you know how I am.) [3:25] That’s all I posted back then, but that gives me lots of space for the latest political parody! Jabari Jones is a channel that I often look at but have always ended up shaking my head and closing the tab because it’s way too offensive for KTK. He generally writes things he imagines tfg would say if he were telling the truth, and then uses AI to change his voice to that of the former guy. This one manages to stay in territory I’m willing to post, so I’m taking this opportunity to show the technology at work. [1:53] From the Parody Project, we have a “Freedom Toast” parody of Jim Croce’s Bad, Bad Leroy Brown, about different bad guys. [3:41] Sandy and Richard Riccardi are really on a roll this election! Their latest, Taylor Swift Derangement Syndrome, is a parody of Taylor Swift’s song Anti-Hero, and if you’re not familiar, you’ll probably enjoy this song more if you go listen to the real one first at that link.
