Conspiracy Theory Regarding the Indictment of NY City Mayor Adams: More Dirty tricks to Help Trump? [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2024-09-28 Why did the notorious NY City FBI office and the DOJ SDNY office announce this bombshell indictment 40 days before the crucial 2024 election? No doubt Adams is a scoundrel, but it would appear that his offenses were rather mundane. (Details below.) More importantly, I am very concerned that there was no need to drop this bombshell so close to the election… and it has the potential to have negative impacts on Democrats in several respects. (Details below.) But first, people should recall that the NY City office of the FBI and the DOJ Southern District of NY have a long history of nefarious activities that affect elections harming Democrats. Who can forget what they did in 2016… to pressure Jim Comey into his late October announcement that he was re-opening the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s emails? (Not to mention literally decades of those two law enforcement entities looking the other way regarding Trump’s many suspect activities while a New York wheeler-dealer. And of course don’t forget Rudi Giuliani’s long and close association there.) So what might make this an action with negative political consequences for Democrats and benefits for Trump? Let’s count the ways. First, it is dividing certain democratic constituencies in New York where several crucial congressional seats are in play. Experts have opined that the loss of several winnable NY seats in 2022 was a big factor in Democrats losing control of the House, and recapturing those will be crucial to Dems hopes of regaining control. And obviously, whoever controls the U.S. House will have profound implications for what happens in a potentially contested presidential election. Second, it is putting pressure on the Democratic Governor of NY to remove Mayor Adams … thus angering his supporters. The choice she must make is clearly a ‘no-win’ situation for the Governor… and for the Democratic Party in New York. Third, it adds fuel to the stereotype Trump always projects about “corrupt big cities run by Democrats”. Fourth, it also provides a particular push to one of Trump’s key attacks on the Biden administration (and now Harris). Adams has already made comments to the effect that this had something to do the Biden Administration not liking his harsh treatment of immigrants. That conveniently plays right into Trump’s first and highest priority issue in the presidential campaign. Fox News is already running with that theme. Lastly, due to the mainstream media’s repeated tendency to fall for these diversions, we have already seen inordinate attention to this headline-grabbing indictment, and no doubt will see more as they chase down all the scurrilous details and the subsequent infighting in the Democratic Party. All at a time where their attention should be fully devoted to the huge implications of the 2024 presidential election. As for the actual offenses, it appears quite evident that Adams has engaged in illegal activity. But the actual magnitude of what the apparent “bribers” provided, and received in exchange, is downright petty. All I’ve seen so far is that he pressured a local fire official to bypass safety regulations for certain Turkish owned building, and pressured people to greenlight the opening of a consular building, so it could be ready before a visit by the Turkish president. In exchange he got numerous travel benefits and potentially foreign campaign contributions. While certainly sleezy, those are pretty minor examples of criminality in a big city …especially compared to all the things Trump, his family, and many high-profile Republicans have done. So are the offenses really worthy of a bombshell indictment 40 days before our hugely important national election? Despite the obvious violation in 2016, the DOJ is reportedly supposed to show restraint near an election and withhold legal announcements that could potentially influence an election. This situation certainly would seem to violate that principal. What was the urgency of announcing this indictment now? An absolutely crucial question will be: how does the mainstream media handle all this? What do you think?
