[1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2024-09-25 The UK is well used to deindustrialisation. Margaret Thatcher was its great believer. England was to become a service economy. Unfortunately, the service economy is mostly in London and so the result has been that the rest of the country exists by selling quaint souvenirs and overcharging tourists for scones and cream. But what else would you expect from a London greengrocer’s daughter? The US is no stranger to deindustrialization — I’m tired of typing it, let’s call it de-ind. The Rust Belt being the prime example. But things appear to be accelerating at a terrific rate. CDJR DEALERS ARE MAD! SCATHING OPEN LETTER TO CEO OF STELLANTIS! YouTube is full of scathing videos about the supposed inability of the American car and truck manufacturers to offer the public what the public (supposedly) wants. And thus, dealer lots are said to be stocked to the rafters with unsold mouth-wateringly expensive trucks, such as the unwanted Ford Lightning or the Rivian, which costs 80 grand and up. A very recent video, added just 12 days ago, makes these points in greater detail than I will go into here. The clip on the right is part of it. The quote below is from the CPA: Sunsong first entered the U.S. market in 2015 by acquiring Harco, a brake hose manufacturer that employs around 100 people. While Sunsong has no manufacturing presence in Mexico, many Chinese auto parts companies are relocating there, encouraged by their American clients, including Ford and Tesla. Sunsong may be next in line to follow this trend. Since mid-2022, nearly 30 Chinese auto parts manufacturers, along with carmakers like Chery and MG Motors, have announced $7.06 billion in investments in Mexico. Chinese investment in Mexico totaled $14.2 billion in 2022-2023, with almost half of that going to the automotive sector, based on a collection of local news articles and data from J.P. Morgan analysts led by Rebecca Wen. Given that Sunsong has already replaced almost all alternative suppliers and is now THE supplier to auto manufacturers EG Ford, Tesla, attacking them sounds to me very much like cutting off your nose to spite your face. Today I saw another electric car in town. A funny looking vehicle in pastel blue. I looked it up on my phone. It only has a top speed of 100 KPH but it has a range of 300Km and it costs just $15,000. Used for Uber it would offer very low cost motoring.
