Voting against CHAOS (with a poll) [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2024-09-22 Conservative Independents and Republicans can save our nation from chaos and reset the needle in civility for election campaigns. Reset the needle and throw out the “Our way or the highway” approach of MAGA and replace it with bipartisan agreements that include the center folks from all parties. It is possible — there would have been a strong border bill, the government would have a workable budget, etc., without the MAGA folks wanting to “deny the win” and “deny bipartisan agreements” to ensure the country remained angry. The polls appear to reflect that ~46% of the US electorate strongly favors Harris, ~ 34% strongly favors Trump leaving a ~20% for uncommitted or unsure votes who appear to be primarily conservative-leading independents or conservative-leaning Republicans. The general assumption is most of these undecided voters don’t like Trump or his hate-filled, racist campaign, yet they are fearful of what Harris might do if elected. There is no reason for any fear — should Harris win, she will still have a conservative court system to shut down any actions deemed unconstitutional. She will still have many Republican-led states willing to sue and stop her actions for any items they don’t like. She will still have a closely divided congress to try and navigate. All the scare tactics that the MAGA team is leveling at undecided voters are lies as there is just not that much any one president can accomplish in 4 years in such a divided nation beyond stacking the court system — something Trump has clearly already done. And it is also clear that the Republican senators can put “holds” on all judicial candidates they don’t like, thus denying them a judgeship. Those same Republicans also stop the selection of executive branch agency leaders they don’t like — just review the history of both ambassadorships and executive branch nominees being denied hearings, much less a vote in the Biden administration - and that is with a razor-thin Democratic Senate majority — something unlikely to change should Harris be elected. When President Obama took office in 2009, he used every cent of his political capital to make health care for all citizens a priority and with that focus, he was able to get the Affordable Care Act — ACA — “Obamacare”, through to the finish line. Republicans hated him pushing this through as his number one priority in 2008-2010 as it gave him a “win”, but his majorities were gone in 2 years and Republicans themselves have been unable to produce anything better since 2010 when they started trying to shut it all down. It was a success for the entire country — especially the lower and middle class citizens who were facing extreme health insurance price hikes as well as denials for pre-existing conditions that at times were sketchily connected at best and at worst, were specifically loopholes to deny coverage. Should MAGA win, it will reenforce and re-bolden the variety of hateful policies and words we have seen this election — using horrific lies that they even acknowledge are lies, in order to get the media cycle attention and scare undecided votes into voting for them out of fear for what the other side will do. Voting for Harris is a vote for the future of civility and facts in our elections and the rejection of the policies of hate and lies. Period. Many state electorates have shown themselves more moderate than the MAGA agenda. Many MAGA-supported candidates who win their primaries, end up losing to independents and Democrats in the general election as that is a more accurate reflection of our country than the MAGA movement. However, with the presidential election decided by the Electoral College, the popular vote will not matter except as way to continue to divide our country should the Electoral College vote not mirror the popular vote... signed onto a letter Some folks feel Trump is just making up whatever he needs to make up to win, and once he wins, things will go back to normal. Yes, the “new MAGA normal” of racist messages, lies in order to justify the means, repression of moderate ideas, etc. Trump is beholden to the group that tells him how wonderful he is — he is having multiple “senior” moments and he has surrounded himself of even more conservative voices - JD Vance, one heartbeat away from the presidency should Trump win, has no qualifications to lead our nation but he did write the book forward for Project 2025. Lara Loomer who is a proud racist. Charles C Johnson who claims the Holocaust was just an unfortunate accident. Trump will push hard to have the FBI and CIA report directly to to the President — thus becoming an extended arm of whatever political party won the election and with MAGA officials in charge and thus further dividing our country. The “saner” heads that prevailed during the previous Trump presidency are gone — and most of them saw first hand the danger of an unqualifed, narcissistic leader and as such … “group of more than 200 [Republicans] who worked for former Presidents George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush, as well as Sen. Mitt Romney and the late Sen. John McCainsupporting the Democratic nominee.” “700 high-ranking national security officials have endorsed Democratic candidate Vice President Harris”. “More than thirty (30) of the 2016 Trump White House staff and leaders support Harris”. The only election result that has a chance to change the tone and future of our elections is for the MAGA movement to lose big — big enough that all the shenanigans they are planning regarding vote counting and controlling electoral boards in swing states, etc., won’t matter. Big enough that the MAGA movement begins to shift back to the political margins and it is possible for either the non-MAGA Republicans to retake the conversation and policy direction, or for a new center-based party to rise out of the outcome of 2024. There are a variety of high profile conservative Republicans who acknowledge the danger to the country of ongoing MAGA election chaos and are campaigning for Harris as they realize the future of our country and freedoms is in significant jeopardy — Nothing less would have persuaded The Lincoln Project, the Cheney’s, etc., to take such a stand and face the hateful consequences on the MAGA side for supporting our entire country in a way MAGA never will. If you are an undecided as you fear what Harris might do even though you don’t approve of the MAGA, don’t be afraid — there really is nothing to fear. Instead, please join the electorate in voting to reject the MAGA. Respond to polls that you don’t support MAGA, ensure the win is not a surprise that opens up more fake talking points on election stealing, etc. Voting for Harris is a vote for the future of civility and facts in our elections and the rejection of the policies of hate and lies.
