Republican hypocrisy and voter fraud [1]

The GOP drumbeat about voter fraud, used as an excuse to justify efforts to restrict voting, has taken a new wrinkle in Georgia. One of the other complaints from the 2020 election was the delay in counting mail-in ballots. Trump, ahead in many places after votes cast that day were counted, whined when the delayed count began to go against him, arguing that the results should be known as soon as the polls close among other elements of his bogus claims of voter fraud and a stolen election.

Now, the Georgia state election board, in a 3-2 vote, has passed a rule requiring all counties to hand-count ballots to verify the machine count well beyond the next day deadline mandated by state law. Only the smallest counties will be able to meet the deadline, and mail-in ballots will be severely affected, including the many ballots by Georgia’s military personnel who are stationed outside the state.

This board-caused delay will no doubt also be used by Trump in law suits to challenge the election if/when he loses Georgia again. Batten down the hatches, folks. Looks like we’re in for another rocky ride.
